this is my first thread, hope im in right section. I am not new to fire arms. The quality of firearms in the last 5 to 10 years is getting me down. Have purchased 1 kahr 2 colts and 1 marlin of poor accuracy. I am not saying there all bad but for what your paying you should get more. I have basically all the brands except hk and happy with most especially previetnam stuff. Most of them Ive been lucky and sold. The firearm in question today is a xd 40 5,25. Ive tried different ammo hornady helps it a little bit but you would still be hard pressed to hit a paper plate at 25 yrds. Like I said I have colts s&w kimbers glocks that i love. Local gun shops wont give me anything for it and are very thankful every time one leaves there shelves. Sooooooo any help from you xder's or 40 people out there would really help. Ive had 2 springfields in the past disappointed with both. For 650 dollars this is a JOKE. Ive seen utube of accurate 40's out there I know it possible. I have a scap iron gen 2 glock that will shoot circles around this thing Stock. Has any body out there put a barstow barrel in one? Any help and or constructive critisism greatly appreciated. Pet load for gun maybe????

Are you shooting off of a ransom rest? MOST people have a hard time hitting a paper plate at 25 yards off hand with a pistol. Sure, experienced shooters can do it.

Are you having other people shoot the guns or is it just you? I have a hard time believing you are getting so many guns with poor mechanical accuracy.

As for the gun - I assume you are talking about the XDM 5.25? As there is no 5.25" XD model, we'll go with that. These guns are known for having pretty exceptional accuracy. Granted, the factory trigger can use some improvement. Perhaps that is what is causing your disappointing accuracy? It's a combat trigger, not a hair trigger. Check out Powder River Precision and Springer Precision for trigger enhancement kits to remove over travel, pre-travel, and break.

I have an XDM 9mm that is very accurate. There must be something wrong with the pistol. Might want to consider getting a hold of Springfield.

.....and to the reply above.....What does post count have to do with anything? 30,000 posts on an internet forum does not an expert make......

Like Mr. Science says, "If we try to isolate the variable"...:)

Have someone else shoot your guns, and see if they still lack accuracy. It would also help to post some targets, as there are certain fairly recognizable patterns with accuracy issues among shooters.

I had a chance to test few brand new XD, and XDMs, 5.25s - all of them, as they came in my club, with people who had them bought.

Usually for competitions we shoot at 25 meters, which is a standard distance.
Every time I shoot the pistol for the first time, I shoot from the rest to determine the group, and POI in relation with POA, with 5 shot group.

The last time I tried XDM, 5.25, 9mm, out of box, from the rest, the result is the group 4 inch in diameter with 4 shots at 25 meters. 5th shot going left and out of group is my mistake due to heavy trigger pull.

However, I noticed very unusual thing.
When the chamber is emtpty, or when blank cartridge is chambered, the trigger pull is light (or light enough). I did not measure, but I estimate maybe up to 6 lb (cca 3 kg), but when live round is chambered, the trigger pull becomes real heavy, maybe 10 lb, or more.

I dont know how to explain that.

On the attached photo, there is a test gruop of 5 rounds from the rest. As mentioned earlier, the shot on the left is my mistake due to heavy trigger pull.

If I need to choose, and out of my experience, I would say CZ 75b is much better finished out of box pistol, and would be my choice. XDM will need some trigger job.

XDM 5.25 accuracy is fine for military/police pistol requirement, however not for 25 meters competition shooting.

ok I knew this would happen. Do i have a rest? no. Have others shot my firearms? yes Do I have pics? No not in the truck. Do i know what accuracy looks like yes. I have a 62 national match that will just about stack em on top of each other; a glock 19 and kimber that will do tennis ball at 15 and a smith 27 that will do about 1 and half inches at 25 with witnesses at a indoor range in wichita ks. Im glad no one has aquired a less than pleasing fire arm lately. Ive been literally stopped by two store owners from buying remington or marlin recently.(and have been told how the owner of freedom was hammered by negative comments at a industry show) Out of 12 ruger 10/22 our lgs got 7 with broken stocks that i witnessed. I can go on and on about qc issues with recently shipped fire arms. Im sure this only happens in ks. I was really hoping someone that actually runs or owns one would reply. Not a 9, not a 45. The gun is supposed to be entry level comp gun. not seeing it.

i would like to thank jolly for a legit reply. i actually like the ergonomics balance and the fiber sight. Back in the day you would buy a colt; then fix the colt. It was the excepted norm. I expected better. Ive heard good things about the cz but hate being the guinee pig. no one shoots em around here. I appreciate any co. trying to help keep the 10mm alive.

Thanks speedwrench!

When I started precision shooting, the only thing available for me was XD 5.25, 9 mil, from club inventory. (I did not own a pistol then)

So I shot few thousand rounds with it. Later, when XDM's came in the club, I have tested few of them, out of the box, and out of curiosity.

They are all peforming very similar in terms of trigger pull (needing a trigger job to be done), and very similar accuracy performance, which is visible on the photo I have attached.

What to expect?
My own performance with XD was that in precision training and competition, with two hands, standing, the best score I was keeping was around 150-160 points, with 10 shots fired in precision, and 10 shots fired in rapid (2 x 5 shot strings, in 10 seconds period each string) at 25 mtr distance.

Roughly, it is about 8 points per shot, which as per attached target is about 6 inch gruop, at 25 mtrs.
The average result of shooting from rest is about 4 inch gruop, in average, with factory ammo.

Ergonomics for both models is very good and to my taste. Recoil is significant, but menagable. Accuracy previously described.
For entry level gun in precision shooting I would still recommend cz75b.

XD Accuracy

While no target pistol, my XD-9 groups around 4" (and sometimes a little less) @ 25 yards standing. Here is an average 10 shots standing target @ 25. For reference, the black on the target (9, 10, X rings) is 5". YMMV

to damon I appreciated your counter post. to everyone except arizona and presspics i appoligize. Those were cheap shots and they know it. any one who denies qc issues of the last 5/6 years must live under a rock. to mr malice i should probably get a ransom now that i wear trifocals; I was just trying to preface with I have some nice shooting pistols but this aint one of em. I knew if I mentioned any sacred cows I would probably get slammed if I went public. I have several friends that shoot better than me. one of em shot a clay pigeon at a 100 yrds. it took him 3 or 4 shots but he got it with a sig 220. To mr dt I do not know how to post pics. I know I should learn Ill put it on the "list" Ive heard people bash hand guns I like but I dont verbally slam em;; I just think to my self 'wonder what the deal is?" also to dt under pressure i do string high and right but its consistent or predictable. I want to like this gun; thats why im willing to dump some time and money in it; well that and no one will take one on trade.

well first of all you could list the correct model. either it's an XD and you have the 5 inch tactical or you have an XDM and you have the 5.25 competition. two completely different beasts.

some people just can't shoot certain models accurately. I love XDs and XDMs through and through. I've had them in 9mm and 45ACP in various sizes and have rented several more in various sizes and calibers(including 40). I once owned an XDM9 4.5 that I just could not shoot well, I eventually traded it to my brother in law who shoots it better than I ever could. it's just a freak occurrence. normally I would tell you to try different backstrap sizes(the gun comes with 3 assuming it's an XDM), try a number of different ammo brands and bullet weights, and to spend some time dryfiring it but it sounds like you've already done all that.

Watch hickok45 shoot, I would say almost nobody can shoot as well as the mechanical abilities of a pistol unless a hipoint or defective. Everything takes getting used to. A 1911 is typically a heavier gun with a lighter trigger I shot a rental 1911 better than my xd9 but then I put some more practice In and shoot it just as well now

To Mr. Tahunua your probably right. I will save my qc rants for another thread. But I'm a sucker for marketing and the "m" does stand for match. To Mr Dirty Harry I hope your foot heals up. To all the people sending me pics of 4" groups, those are very nice but I'm struggling with a .40. I have a accurate 9 and 45. I should edit my initial comment that I am new to black plastic and would be considered a "hater" in the past. I believe all firearms problems or issues can be cured with blue steel and walnut or possibly maple. I've watched many of Hickocks videos; he's one of the greats and it would be nice to have hands the size of pie plates. He makes it look so easy. Now proceed with caution cause I'm going to try to explain how and why I've sorta painted myself into a corner with this pistol. There are going to be many tangents, rabbit trails, rants etc. A few years back I'm sitting some where in America reading a Clint or Heidi Smith article and it's talking about how Heidi has a safe full of custom or high end 1911's but carries a glock sometimes. This is not a paid glock commercial although it's going to sound like it for a short while. More later I have to get off the rack.
