wow, just wow

This particular example shows normal wear on the grips, has some scratches in the finish at the end of the barrel, but overall condition is good at 70-75%.

*Note: There is only ONE firearm represented in this listing.

maybe folks think there are two pythons for sale.

If what I just read is true, there are between five million and seven million millionaires living in the United States. When they are not busy bribing politicians with campaign contributions they... I don't know, fiddle with their investments, go to work, play golf, hang out with family & friends, buy themselves toys...

That's what my dad did, anyway. And after he retired, even work was off the list. I never asked him, "Hey Dad, why did you pay $5,000 for a guitar? You already have 20-something."

His answer would have been something like, "My investments earned me more than that in the amount of time it took me to drive to the store, haggle a bit, and drive home with it."

A few thousand for a gun means nothing to some people.

(PS I am not suggesting that Dad (RIP) bribed politicians via campaign contributions. He was appalled by that and considered it to be unethical and disgraceful. He did all the other stuff, though, and traveled, and played guitar.)

wow inflation.

wow supply and demand

Edit....Everything has minimum 2 prices. The one you can buy it for, and the one you can sell it for.
Maybe some of you are looking at the wrong price.:D

It's a python.

They don't make them anymore.

If you want one--you gotta pay the piper.

Or be incredibly lucky enough to stumble onto an ignorant seller.

Unfortunatly, this is the going rate for Pythons these days. They truly are the greatest revolver ever made, but I don't think I could bring myself to pay THAT price for one!

I know. I've bought five of them. The price on this one is still absurd.

It's not the going rate for that Python in that condition. I paid significantly less than that for a 1957 Python in far better shape than that one (95-96%) just this past November.

It's certainly not unheard of to see auctions like this one, because there are a lot of ignorant prospective buyers (and auction fever sometimes gets involved), but that's definitely not the median auction for that gun.

Most iconic? Yes. Greatest American revolver ever made? You can make a strong case. Greatest revolver ever made anywhere? Flatly, no. Not even close, mechanically speaking.

Strange auction. The only bidder to bid a second time was John T, and he raised his first bid by ten bucks within 17 seconds -- that's gotta be a double tap. Nobody seems to want it badly enough to bid a second time -- unless they're all waiting for the last minute (second) to make their last, best offer.

Any item is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it.

That's exactly right, and the past is history.
The cheapest price is best for the buyer, and the highest is best for the seller.
And I pay whatever it worth to me.;)

Yes, that's all well and good, but common commodities have at least roughly discernible market rates. The fact that someone is happy to pay that much over market doesn't mean the decision isn't an economically stupid one.

trouble is, they've priced themselves out of intended use... you can't justify shooting that revolver at that price, & it's nothing more than shooter grade condition... they have now become nothing more than "art" ... I'd love to have one in my collection... however where they have become priced, I'd sell it, if I had it ( & I'm not known for selling any of the guns I've purchased )

I just love to go to the gun shows, and listen to the dealers.....:D

When buying, denigrate......

When selling......glorify it to all the way to heaven......yes the SAME one.

IMHO, the Python is dead as far as using one for defence or on duty.

They just are worth too much. Even a poor example, abused, is worth what? $1500?? They are collector's guns now. In a few years, most N-frame Smith & Wessons will be in the same boat.
