Wouldn't we be better off with a common NATO Cal. Gun insteat of M1A?

Actually, 300 yards isn't that far.

I can hit the ram at 300 yards all day long with my SKS, so I wouldn't under estimate a .223 at 300 yards. Besides Twoblink, where do you get to practice shooting that M1A in Pasadena? ;)

They don't need to hit you at 300yds-something called suppressive fire is all that is needed just to pin you in place till you are either outflanked, or bigger stuff starts to land.

Oh Great Master "El Rojo" I have yet to see an SKS hit anything at 300yds. I tried to do it with a scope on my SKS and couldn't hit $@!% with it. How big was your target? If you can do it maybe I should break mine out again and see if I was doing something wrong;)

Take the scope off!

No wonder, the biggest money making scheme in the gun industry are the people who make scopes for SKS's. You will never get that SKS to fire the way you want with a scope so don't even bother. If I want to use a scope I put it on something that is worth scoping. I was just shooting at your standard size silloute ram at 300 yards. I think I got as high as 9 out of 10 hits. It might help to take the safety off too. :D

SKS scope is not for precision shooting like sniper rifle scope,
it's for people who is having hard time to see target like me :D
when you get older, you will understand, :p

If the "enemy" reads this thread, I don't think we'll have anything to worry about. Who would volunteer to take any one of these members' guns?!?:D

teufelmann55:

you are the MAN! And so are you, solitar. You guys bring common sense to this discussion.

Some people never seized to bewilder me. Only because one has an M1A, it doesn't mean he / she is invinsible. I never understand how some people with .308 caliber rifles always think that they can engage the enemy and then get away without a scratch! Shooting at paper targets in the range is NOT the same with shooting at a squad of soldiers who shoot back and manouver. Some of you seem to think that the enemy would withdraw as soon as they are under fire. That is not the case, my friends. What they would do is to deliver suppression fire at you and they'll manouver to outflank you. The movie "Red Dawn" is just that: a movie, don't mistaken it for reallity!

Another thing: how many of you ever tried to hump in the woods with 200 rounds of 7.62 x 39 ammos plus your other gear? Try it sometimes! I can tell you it's no fun, mainly if you are hungry and thirsty.

Thanks Johan762.

And one other thing to remember depending on your locale the range of engagement may be reduced to short visibility-forests, city streets, enemy wearing camoflage uniforms (it becomes difficult to see someone in a camoflage uniform out past about 250M moving tactically in most cases), in a desert depending on mirage conditions you may not see more than 200M. In a forest usually engagment range is 75M and closer and you would be in serious trouble with a semi-automatic vs. full automatic fire at point blank. usually the minmum you would run into on foot would be a squad 8-12 men armed with some form of assault rifle, SAW and or GPMG, perhaps a grenade launcher, and usually some form of rocket launcher.
I am not saying to fight would be impossible-I am just saying fight with discretion, they advance you retreat- they retreat you harass. holding ground is something best left to an organized unit-unless you have no choice.
