Would you trade?

I have a S&W 29-10 with a Kramer horse hide holster that I have for trade on a few forums. Anyway, a guy offered me a straight trade for a H&K USP compact in .40 with a Black hawk holster.

Do you all think it's a good trade? The values seem about the same to me.

Tell me what you think.
Thanks

you going to go meet him or mailed transaction

if your going too meet him it sounds ok but i dont trust trades over the internet

What is the purpose of the trade? I do not have enough information to say one way or the other without more detail. All I can say at this point is that I own a full size USP, and have handled a couple of the compacts, and if you are looking to aquire a SD Gun, you will not be dissapointed, as the HK USP's are about as good as it gets, IMO, anyway. But I believe that you will find that most will agree with the quality of the HK. What is the configuration of your gun? How much did you pay, what is the book value, why do you want to get rid of it, etc.?
And again, what are you looking to gain from the trade?

Egor, I know what you are saying, but when it comes to a serious Self Defense weapon, the HK USP, in any configuration is a thoroubread in its own right that does not take a backseat to anything.

I'm looking for a poly framed gun for CCW in a reasonable caliber, a medium frame .357 and/or a new shotgun. The reason I want to get rid of the S&W is that it does not serve a purpose for me.
The trade is local over a local fire arms classified forum. Both pistols are in good to very good condition. Mine comes with a much more expensive holster. $150 vs $20.

HK has good quality pistols.
I like S&W revolvers but if it is of no use, I would trade it off for another that I can use.

I'd trade for the HK in a heartbeat....but then again my USP Compact is my favorite handgun and I'm not much on S&W revolvers.

I have never traded or sold a gun that I did not regret selling or trading. I'll never sell or trade any gun again.

I certainly wouldnt trade my Model 29.

Heck I have plenty of grandkids I could sell into slavery first.

Really? That's lousy, I've made a few sales/trades and I really made my peace with it before doing so.

I sold a Ruger GP-100 to my future brother in law which I kind of would like back, but at the same time, I don't like adjustable sights and it helped me raise money for something else I wanted more.

I sold a Century Arms AK and a Glock 17 in FTF deals last weekend and used the money to buy a DPMS AR-15 and don't regret either of those sales in the least.

There are certain guns I would NEVER trade (my Beretta 92 for instance) but I've done well with the sales I've made. Also, I would trade a S&W revolver for any HK product without even thinking about it while counting my lucky stars that someone was dumb enough to make that trade with me.

Really?

Why are you trying to do a 'trade' as opposed to two separate transactions?

Sell your existing gun for the best price you can get to whomever is interested in your gun, and then shop around to find a best purchase you can make.

Doing a trade, restricts the pool of purchasers and buyers substantially.

I wouldn't trade a S&W revolver for any HK product ....

Fixed it!:D

Seriously, you'd trade a .44 Magnum for a .40S&W? Forget what they sell for, they aren't even remotely in the same class for "value". If you need a .44mag, the .40 (anybody's .40) just isn't going to cut it. And if the .40 is most useful to you, the .44 just isn't optimised for the same thing.

I wouldn't trade (but then I don't care for HK handguns), but if your .44 is surplus to needs, and you want something else, its your gun....and you business. But you did ask.

The trade offer is secondary to my sale. I'd obviously prefer to sell the pistol and so I can use part of the cash to buy a shotgun and part to buy medium frame revolver.
But this fellow offered me this trade and I thought I'd run it by you guys. Thanks for the opinions.

I got a few other offers today. One was for a 696 (44 special) with a crimson trace laser, a couple of offers to trade straight across for a 20 year old Model 28, and an offer for my choice of a xd40 sub compact or a glock 23, both with night sights and 3 or 4 mags.
I said no to all of them so far. If I do end up with a poly framed ccw gun out of this I'm not going to take less then $200 in cash along with it. That way my new shot gun will just about be paid for too.
What say ye?

Further thought

I am with KraigWy,
Since you did ask, I would really concentrate on selling your 629 first, as in almost any trade you make for a SD semi, you will come out on the short end of the stick to a substantial degree. Again you have not given the details of your gun, but if you got what the gun is worth you will have at least most of the funds to purchase your Semi, med frame revolver, and possibly enough to cover at least part of your shotgun.
And to KraigWy's other point, I agree wholeheartedly. The few guns I have sold or traded, even when I made out well, I still miss.
My philosiphy, is never trade or sell, just buy more:p! Every time I have disregarded that way of thinking, I have regreted it, no matter how good of a deal I had.:(.
There is no such thing as having enough guns, no matter how many guns one has, more is always better:D! I may have a sickness, but if it is a disease, please don't cure me.:)!!

I'd like to be able to keep lots of stuff around. But eventually the stuff you own ends up owning you. So I generally try and sell/trade the things that I won't be using.
I just got done conversing with a gentleman who thought that my asking price was too high. My pistol is in very good condition, comes with a pair of ($60) after market cocobolo grips and a ($150) horse hide sheath. It has had 200 rounds through it. What price do ya'll think is proper? I am asking $750.

let me know if this is getting too much like a for sale thread and I'll edit my posts
