Would like some advice please. (Sorry so long)

"Most affected by heavy loads" would be the forcing cone. They can eventually crack, but you really need to put a LOT of heavy use in for that to happen. Meaning round count above 70,000 and closer to 150,000. Very few guns will ever reach that. You could shoot once a week for ten years and hardly reach that. So shoot it and don't sweat wearing it out. Honestly most S&W and Ruger revolvers are not really broken in until you put 3000 rounds down the pipe. I know lots of guys who buy lots of guns but only shoot every other month or so. They are lucky to even ever break in their guns.

Personally, I'd shoot it as well for the reasons already covered.

If you really want to make it a "safe queen" . . . look for another S & W J frame - I have two Model 36s that I carry off and on . . one a snub and the other a 3" - not too much different than your 60 for all intents and purposes.

Or . . a Ruger LCR. You can find them used . . . around here they are around $340 - $360 used. I traded my LCR 357 in on my Model 36 Snub as i just like the steel, older style Smith better.

And don't worry - you won't wear a Smith out! If you are not confident in checking a used one out - have a gunsmith take a look at it before buying.

Another thing to remember is that Ruger gives excellent customer service and S & W has a good reputation as well. I've never owned a Taurus . . . . never will. From those that have owned them . . it's "hit and miss" and personally, I'd much rather have a good vintage S & W or a Ruger than a brand new Taurus. But that's just me . . .

I plan on shooting it but I will probably go ahead and buy another gun a little bigger (K frame?) to keep with me and carry around. From what Ive read I could maybe double my money if I decided to sell the JJ since I bought it for a great price. A friend of a friend had passed and his son was selling off his 100+ guns. He took the blue book value of a standard model 60 in good condition and knocked 20% off of it. He didnt know anything about it. Its not very unique but probably worth not getting it scratched up.
Its not hard to come up with reasons to buy another gun, although my wife is not as amused!!!

"...John Jovino Custom..." Isn't a collector piece and never will be. Work up a load or try a box of as many brands as you can and practice with whatever shoots best. Your wife will have to do that too.
"...than a brand new Taurus..." Rather have my 'combat stick'. 43.5" of green oak weighing 6 pounds. snicker.

I agree that it wont be "collectable" I think a better word would be "desirable" I know of one that sold for over $800 but it had the original box. I bought this gun as a tool and planned on dragging it everywhere I went whether its in my pocket or under the car seat etc. Im just thinking that it may be a little too nice for that. I will definitly shoot it, but it wont ever be "put away" in a safe. I just bougt 100 rds of .38s and plan on shooting it for the first time this Thursday. I seems to be a perfect size for my small hands but I want to try a medium frame Smith next.
