Would anyone like to see a P99 Sub compact???

P 99 Sub Compact

I sell a lot of P 99's each week and really love the one that I own and carry. I would surely love to see it made in a smaller more concealable package like my Glock 27.I'm sure others would as well and I hope they will make it. I have heard there will be a .45 acp model at the end of the year but I'd rather have the compact.

Read through enough SHOT show reports and you'll see where Walther is reported to be working closely with "the evil ones" (S&W) to create a P99 in .45, but this new pistol will only be offered by Smith. I can just HEAR the agony... But it's a .45... But it's a Slick & Willy.... But it's a .45..... But it's a Slick & Willy....

I for one would like to see Walther, Germany make a true compact P99 in 9mmx19 and .40S&W first, as I said above.

If S&W, under Walther license, makes a P99 in .45 ACP, I won't be interested at all and, it has nothing to do with the deal that S&W struck with the Clinton regime. It has everything to do with the quality, or lack of, in the S&W manufactured 99 series of pistols.

Being licensed by Walther to produce a handgun doesn't mean that S&W puts the same workmanship into the guns that Walther does. The NJ State Police deal and the SW99 is a good example of a POS handgun made under license by S&W.

I bought my Walther P99's because they are German made quality firearms. It happens to be my money and I will buy the product that appeals to me and serves my interests best.

I really wonder how many of the P99 bashers have owned/shot/held one?

Not very many if any at all and you can take that one to the bank.

First things first -

(My bias)
I love my new all German, military OD, 9mm, P99. In the month that I've had it (500 rounds), I've shot Winchester "white box" 115gr. ammo, a large quantity of my own reloads (some hot, some not), and Winchester Ranger 127gr. "T-series" +P+ ammo. I have not had any problems/failures whatsoever! I'm very pleased.

Now, regarding the above comment concerning the joint effort of Walther and S&W to produce a P99(?) in .45 acp -

(In a nutshell)
I thought that Walther previously enlisted S&W to help in the production of a quantity of slides in .40 auto. Do to poor quality, I was under the impression that Walther "took back" all S&W slide production responsibilities.

(My question)
Why would Walther even consider a joint effort with S&W considering past events? What am I not understanding? Doesn't Walther know that S&W has lost the confidence of a large percentage of the American shooting public?

(Conclusion)
Regardless of politics, if S&W has any hand in the production of a certain line of Walther pistols, I'm going to have to "pass".

Catbird, not a joint venture in the way you are thinking. It will be a .45ACP "SW99" from Smith & Wesson, not a Walther P99 farmed out to S&W for finishing.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the clarification. Sadly, I guess I'll have to pass; I was really looking forward to a German P99 in .45 acp. :(

Walther P99 sub-compact????? If it's German made, yes! I've be hoping they'd make even a compact version. Why not both? I can make little more room in my safe.

I think the P99 is already a perfectly sized service pistol... It's oddly shaped and has a rather unusual profile... some weapons, like a Glock can just be cut down end to end to make compact and subcompact models, I'd be curious just to see how Walther will shrink the P99 and still maintain a well balanced, properly proportioned, user friendly weapon. I'm not so sure I'd be interested in a smaller P99 personally though... it's tough to beat Glock's 26 and 27 for those calibers. Regardless, I would not in the least be interested in anything that rolls out of Smith and Wesson. Among the many other serious reasons I bought my P99, part of it's sense of identity in my opinion comes from it's national origin. Walther just makes better guns, you can't beat that. Personally, it bugs me just a little bit that a high end, high quality firm like Walther would do business with the same company that brought us the Sigma series pistols.
