Worst gun film of the decade

I think in Tombstone that the OK corral scene is just shooting multiple angles for effect. I think that the point where you think Doc Holiday is shooting three shots from the shotgun is just the same scene shot from a different angle. The part where Curley Bill is shooting at the moon is pure Hollywood myth.

As far as John Wayne's films go, I have to admit that many of them were pretty bad as far as accurate gun handling portrayl; however, The Shootest (the Dukes last film) ranks among my all time favorite. This is a film, which you should see if you haven't already, where gunplay is dealt with in a realistic manner (if you can except the mindset of those in the final scene). The scene where the Duke is explaining the realities of gun fighting to young Ron Howard is top notch.

I read an interview with John Fasano once, the producer of Tombstone, and he said that if the shots go over its because you are hearing the same shots in different scenes. (view Curly bill bang bang, view Wyatt Earp bang bang, same shots) By the way he is a gun nut.

I read or saw something one time about the 150 shots before a reload, seems that a lot of times the sound is recorded seperately than the film. So when you have a scene with multiple angles the sound gets shots from all the angles. It sometimes get imposed onto the final cut. Of course I could be mistaken.

Worst Movie: THE CROW.
Due to negligent firearms handling off camera Brandon Lee lost his life. Unsolved Mysteries showed a segment on it the other day (okay I sometimes watch Lifetime, but only for that show.)

Seems a load with no powder was used to film a close up of the cylinder rotating. Primer igntied and bullet was lodged in the barrel. Film crew thought something was odd, but failed to check for obstruction. Then later a scene was filmed that used full power blanks for the gunfight scene. First full power blank propelled bullet from barrel into Mr Lee. A damn shame. Considering bullet placement it's a wonder he held on for as long as he did.

Gator.

"Dollar For The Dead" starring Emilo Estevez.

Our hero is having some whiskey at the town saloon. He notices a bad guy entering the room in the reflection of the mirror behind the bar.

Emilo spins, drops his full shot glass of whiskey, draws and unloads six rounds into the dude, then casually catches the glass before it hits the ground, downing it in style. He never even blinked.

Guys,
I agree!!!!Tombstone's the best! I've got the movie and I've watched it probably 30 times. Once, I counted in slo-mo...awww...it's still great, I guess the editing just sucks.

Maybe one of the best pure GUN movies was Quigley Down Under. Tom Selleck is a class guy and handled that Sharps (and the 1860 Army)like a pro.

Also, I thought the classic Full Metal Jacket had some great gun handling / shooting scenes, too.
