Worst ammo:kill ratio?

Too many dove hunters never pattern their shotguns to find out which variety of #8 works best. It can be a real eye-opener to shoot at a three-foot sheet of plain paper and see "vacancies" in the shot pattern of several inches across.

While patterning is nice, it does NOT tell the whole story - you're looking at a two-dimensional representation of a three dimensional shot string. Depending on the gauge and the load, that string can be very long (over 20'). So where you think there might not be a hole in the pattern, there actually might be one.

Finding a place to shoot high-incomers and 40 yard crossers would be a good practice routine

Prairie dog at 600 yards with a .223 AR

Only took about 20 rounds to get a hit. He was out of the 12x scope and I was having to do lot of guessing,

Me and a cousin ( probably me 14 cousin 17) were squrill/rabbit hunting with our semi-auto 22lr's when we realized a cooperhead was at our feet. We started blasting awar, both emptied our 22's (probably 30 rounds) and not a scratch on the snake. Had to reload and then take careful aim to dispatch snake. The true version of that story did not get told for some years.

I have to ask why you would shoot 96!!!! rounds at a fox, was he really worth it in the end?? at .25 cents a shot for my reloaded FMJ's in .223 thats around 24 dollars in the dirt there....

Dove for me....

It took a couple of years to get the dove thing down. Then it was about 5 a box on average.

About 50 rounds of 22 lr at a Ptarmigan. Normally when you shoot at 'em they take off, but this guy just kept taking off and landing with me in pursuit.
