Shall we try to guess which road you're on?

Words mean things. We've lost sight of that in this country. Enumerate means count. Count means to determine the number of. It does not mean to catagorize.

Words mean things.

Deanf,

That may be true in most cases, but not all.

Confused? Why, just this past year we got a few examples of just such a thing. Didn't our beloved Dictator-in-chief try to redefine what 'is' means? Having sex isn't 'having sex' to both parties engaged in the same act?

C'mon, can't everyone just use the accepted dictionary definition of a word?

Cold Man (aka P l i k e r) --

During the census of 2010, question 34, 35 and 36 will read as follows

34. Do you own any firearms? (this information is necessary to complete the census in the manner approved by Congress.)
35. How many firearms do you own? (this information is necessary to complete the census in the manner approved by Congress.)
36. What are the calibers, makes, models and serial numbers of the firearms you own? (this information is necessary to complete the census in the manner approved by Congress.)

Thanks for playing.

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998

Why does it upset you so much if people don't want to answer these questions? Do you think people should never question the authority of the government? No one here has attacked you, but you are attacking others on a very personal level.
We are only questioning the validity of certain questions which we feel invade our privacy. Do you think we should also let the tax man in our houses? Should we always give our SSN out just because someone asks?
Your arguments sound just like those of the anti's. "Do it because you're supposed to."

Do you have an answer to the Japanese Americans who were held in internment camps as to why it's good that they answered the entire census form? So that their offspring could find out what kind of toilets they had? For posterity?

cold man, with regard to Census questions, you assert

quote:
Many are clearly illegitimate.
and

quote:
The count has been divided into very basic and quite legitimate categories for over 2 centuries.
Which specific Census questions do you find legitimate, which illegitimate? Why?

cold man, with regard to Census confidentiality, you assert

quote:
It won't be available for anything but statistics by the Census until 2072.
whereupon rebuttal was offered by mk86fcc

quote:
you might ask the Japanese-Americans who were herded into "relocation" camps during WWII what they think of that 72-year confidentiality clause...
and by CindyH

Would you care to offer any counter to these rebuttals, cold man?
