My wife graduated with her BA degree and is getting her teaching credentials and her Masters degree this year. She is going to be a certified teacher and she is also smart enough to want to stay at home, and home school our kids.
There is no mystery why home school kids do so well. One of the first comments most home school kids say when they go to a public school is that "they waste so much time!". Think about how much time is wasted at school getting your books out, going from class to class etc, and that does not even account for the %80 of class time that (research shows) is spent by the teacher trying to get unruly kids to quiet down.
Home school kids get a one-on-one tutor who knows them better than anyone else and is %100 dedicated to THEIR personal education.
There are, of course other reasons as well.
One thing I get sick of is that everyone's pat answer to refuting homeschooling is that the kids won't get social experience. You mean you really want your kids socializing with the animals that run through public schools? I sure don't. And not only that, but home schoolers have banded together on the internet, just like we have here, and there are TONS of social events for home school kids to go to. If you are done with school for the day in 3 hours, that leaves the whole rest of the day to socialize. Join a soccor league, take karate, take tennis lessons, go to home school picnics and dances etc...there is plenty social occasion for home school kids.
The government has proven that they only know how to take something good and screw it up really bad.
Public schools spend THREE times as much per student than private schools and they manage to waste that much money while still providing a comparatively horrible education. The only thing gov't knows how to to do is spend way more money than the private sector, while delivering a far inferior product.
