Work outing at the beach...to carry or not?

Constantine-
Good job taking the high road in this conversation.

I have an LCP that I have owned for a bit over two years now, and a Kahr PM9 that I have owned for a bit over five years (and carried every day for over three years).

In a situation such as you describe, I would have one or the other with me. And unless I was wearing a Speedo, it would be the PM9.

Do you need a reason to buy another gun? If so, perhaps I have provided you with adequate rationalization.

PS--please post pics of the scantily-clad females present at the celebration. :)

Orionengnr, thank you very much. I really appreciate that comment.

So you would take one with you then? I mean no one is going to know anything besides my girlfriend.

Funny too, even though you said I have a reason to buy another gun lighthearted and jokingly. You are right :) I now do. Kahr .45 sounds nice. I know they have those. My uncle (who is also a veteran) has a ruger lcp also for sale $300 with 7 mags and the box. Does that seem legit?

I would probably carry.... in that I assume there is no chance of you wanting to go in the water and the gun will be concealed at all times.

the big challenge for me would be to absolutely not let anybody from work know I was carrying.

This is a work sponsored event. Like it or not, I'd leave the thing in the car.

Work event or not, you are protected by leaving it in the car. Take it along with you to the beach and that protection is gone. It's your job but I wouldn't risk mine over it.

Personally, I would leave the firearm in the car and if the place is too unsafe, then I would not go to the event.
CC at a work event and possibly get fired? Not for me. No job = No ammo.

Leaving gun in car at company lot

In most states these days it is legal to leave a gun in your car if you can legally own the gun and have a CCW permit. But employers will still post rules that forbid having a gun in your car in the company parking lot.

But I wonder how the employer will actually enforce such a rule and learn of violations of the rule? If the employee is discreet and keeps the gun well hidden in the car and never speaks of it to anyone, how will the employer find out? And how would the employer manage to search the car and confirm the presence of the gun? Presumably the car is locked with a burglar alarm set, and the gun in the car is in a locked container of some sort. I have never heard of an employer searching the hundreds of cars parked in its lot every day on a random basis.

This seems similar to an employer posting a rule that employees cannot think bad thoughts about the company or their boss. You can post such a rule, but how will you know it is being violated?

Pocket pistol...and yes i believe you should exercise your right to carry always

a 357 snub 5 shot can sit in a baggy pocket and not be seen easily....heck i got some 22lr's that could fit 2 to a pocket and no one would see em :)

I would put a gun case containing fishing poles or golf clubs on my back seat and have some fun with the company. :D

Here, if the company were to search your car, the searcher would be in possesion of a stolen firearm the moment he touched your gun without your blessing. YMMV, know your laws.

As to the beach question. Carrying a gun would depend on mode of dress and the activities involved, work related or not.

Well thank you all, really appreciate the responses.

I think I'm going to go ahead and take it with me alright...just leave it in the car. Had I had the little pocket pistol that's so famous now it'd even be on me.

Haha! "no job = no ammo" true story brother.

It'll be fine in the car. It's about 30ft or so away. Think I'll take the G22? Or maybe remove the tac light from the XD45 and take that? I'll see I'll see. G27 looks happy too.

Just for.....giggles? Anyone ever wonder what a .40 or .45 will do to a shark? lol

See this is why I love my job. Not only is my boss pro gun, and pro carry. He also takes me and his son shooting every week, and springs for a box of ammo for each of us every time.

You wouldn't expect a 50 something, slightly nerdy Korean guy to be so Rambo haha.

So needless to say, all of our work outings are at the range :)

See?!? Why couldn't my life turn from what it was to that instead? Aren't you a lucky son of a gun. That's awesome. What does he shoot? I'd much prefer that

See, there Constantine. There's your problem right there in your signature. Big-ass guns. You need a small-ass gun. Something that you can hide in your ass crack when you wear a speedo on the beach.:rolleyes:;)

The Doc is out now.

My boss has two Sig saurs, a p239 and one polymer framed one, and a decked out AR 15 but he's bought us all range boxes, and in his garage he has about 5000 rds of ammo, thousand rds for each of our guns

rules

Wearing guns is a choice.
Following rules is a choice.
Survival; it, too, is often a choice.

My life, my rules. I am still here to defend my position.

I would advise folks that you do not announce that you deliberately violate laws or employee policies on the Internet.

Posturing gets you no cudos.

With your car on the beach near you, are you so afraid of your fellow employees attacking you? Or some zombie horde on the beach attacking your entire group?

If it can mean losing your job. why would you consider taking that risk in this economy?

Just because you CAN do something, doesn't always mean you SHOULD

Is the beach public property? If yes, then if you can carry legally in other public places, the beach should be legal. They don't get to issue directives concerning carry off of their property.
The real issue is do you wish to risk your job by carrying at a work related gathering. If it were me, I'd leave it in the car.
