Wood vs Synthetic, whats your stock preference?

Wood looks classic and can last an eternity if you take good care of it.

That being said, my background is primarily military and LE, so I would always choose composite over wood for duty use because it's typically lighter and easier to take care of.

If the weapon was meant to be a show piece or 'safe queen', then I'd consider wood. Composite is just more practical in my world.

I agree about composite being easier to take care of... BUT... this is my Model 7 'Mountain Lite' in .308, and I have carried her all over the Sierra Nevadas.

I take care of her, and she has always done the same for me. Rain, snow, slush... she keeps dropping critters. Laminate stock, and beautiful.

Synthetic for me. I hunt hard in thick brush so I am not concerned about my rifle winning a beauty contest. :) I want a rifle or gun I can use and not worry about the limbs scratching the stock up. Also I think synthetic stocks do better in harsh weather conditions.

I have always loved the feel and look of real wood. The grain, the character, the variations in pattern that make every one unique. I used to build guitars, and just love real wood. I get the reasoning that wood is affected by temperature and moisture. I live on the west coast, and the weather is fairly mild, so it's not as much of an issue for me. Hey, the old milsurps were used in all conditions, and temps, and they are still being used everyday. Just a thought.
