Woo Hoo! Finished a Vintage Pistol Set Today

Just last week a friend of mine walked into a little hole in the wall gunshop in Southern Virginia and came across a VERY nice condition 1962 Model 16.

For $529.

I just about cried.

I see them all the time for that money. Recently I saw bigfoot with a $500 model 16 and the week before, Paul Bunyan had one.

Yeah, well, next time you're messing with Sasquatch, see if you can get him to sell me his Model 16.

The problem with the potential sales were that both parties refused to provide photo ID and neither wanted to do any type of written transfer. It was straight up cash and carry. Both were interested in maintaining their myth status moreso than the selling of the gun.

Haven't seen you around these parts for a long time. Last I heard a guy shot you at a card game in Dodge, but I knew you were never the cheatin' type.

On top of this post war K frame set (I remember you posting it originally) you actually are one of the very few people to have the pre war K frame target set, although I never saw you post a pre war M&P 38 target. Might as well post that trio too, if you got them all. I know you have a sweet K-22 outdoorsman. Most of us rarely see a K-32 1st model aka pre war K-32 hand ejector. What a special S&W to have

Hello Winchester73
The Main Reason I Haven't been around here much Lately is because my Viewing & Posting right's were Taken Away in the buy & sell section of the forum for not posting per their "NEW" rules.... I can't even view that area & It Knd of Kill's One's Enthusiasm after that to even come around at all, I used to visit often and contributed much to the forum when I did but I Guess that did not matter any, and I even Appologized to the moderator that took my viewing and Posting privilages, for not following the Protocal but it did not seem to matter at all, as they have not been given back to me :( I do have a Pre-war K-22 Outdoorsman but have not located the other two yet being a K-38 Target M&P Model of 1905 nor the elusive K-32 That they only made 94 of. I do have my eye on one though that belong's to a friend of mine... I have asked him to will it to me since he won't sell it to me, so we will have to see how good of a friend that he really is, but here are some pictures of my 1936 K-22 Outdoorsman as well as the Ultra Rare One of Only 94 Pre-War K-32's..... The reason I had it to Take pictures of it was that I had fitted a set of Period correct Pre-War service stock's to it that are shown fitted & finished in the pictures of it below. Regards, Hammer It

Some serious collectibles there!

Nice!! :

Hello Doc540
I appreciate your Kind word's. I Prefer the early Five screw S&W revolver's, but I did slip one Four screw Model K-22 into my collection. The reason I did so was that it was a Pre-Model stamped gun which S&W made roughly for One year or so, before stamping other's after it in the crane area with MOD. 17 This one shipped in June 1956 to The Shapleigh Hardware Compnay of St. Louis MO. It is shown with it's Factory Installed serial numbered Magna's, original Box, Paperwork & Tool's.... This time span was the Point of the standard Bluing finish change at S&W on the K-22's. In 1946 Carl Hellstrom who was the new Post-War President of S&W came up with the idea of cutting the Preperation time of bluing on the standard finish S&W's Offered by not going as far with the final Polish of the gun's prior to their bluing process. This Meant More production as the Polishing process involved to get a gun to high Polished bluing takes ample time. S&W was coming out of a very long stretch of making War Time gun's that did not provide much profit for the compnay, and the General gun Public of buiyer's were Hungry for the new gun designs as all Public sales of Gun's was Halted for the War Effort, so the less shinny bluing meant more gun's out at the end of the day, and More People happy to get their gun's quicker. Back then S&W was so backed up with order's for gun's that they were running 24 Hour shift's wide open Just to catch up. In or around 1955 S&W decided to go back to Their Famous Bright blue gun finish as the standard finish on these guns. To me, The late 1950's to Mid 1960's time span had some of the most Killer looking Bluing, fit and finish to the gun's since we had seen since the old school day's back in the 1930's....Here is my 1956 Four screw Variant K-22 Non Model stamped revolver. a Special Note here... The gun is shown with an Up-Swept Hammer, or often Called a Speed Hammer on it. S&W used these in their early Post-War gun's but in 1950 or so, we saw them come out with the new Target hammer's at a cost of $2.50 & in January 1956 we saw them add Target Trigger's at a cost of $3.00 as an option. Now, being that S&W was a company to No Waste any part's that could still be utilized, if a customer did not specify that they wanted these new Target Hammer's or Trigger's they simply Placed & used up existing supplies of part's on hand before switching over to the new optional Targel Masterpiece parts...That is often why we see Many K-22's with Target Hammer's but not Target trigger's or vice versa as one could have ordered them any way that they wanted one back then at a very Modest price. Too Bad we can not return to those Good Old Day's with S&W isn't it ? Regards, Hammer It

VERY nice!

Thanks for posting that info.

I have cash to spend, but, for the life of me, cannot find a piece of the correct Nox-Rust paper for my '53.

I'm using the off-white, tissue paper now which is correct for earlier guns.

If you come across any, would you be so kind as to alert me?
doc540@swbell.net

I would VERY much appreciate it.

Correct bore brush arrived today.

Without the Nox-Rust paper, I think this is about as close as I can get to replicating everything that came with the 1953 K-22 Masterpiece.
