In Nov. of last year I was homeward bound from base camp at Deir Ez Zor, Syria, after completing my work hitch over there. This was during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and I knew that most resturants would be closed at least until I reached Amsterdam.
I put some bread I had brought over with me (it freezes just fine) and a can of Spam (yea Abdulla some good ole pork!) in my briefcase. Sure nuff while waiting at my hotel in Damascus for the flight the restaurant was closed and (HORROR of all HORRORS) the bar was closed too! I made a sandwich in my room and late left for the flight.
I went through Security TWICE in Damascus..........first the airport security (wich is a joke) then KLM security which is better.
Upon landing in Amsterdam I went thorugh security again, and again still before boarding................after landing in Memphis, TN, and clearing customs and immigration I had to go through security AGAIN and then of all the luck was picked for another random check before boarding my flight to Lafayette, La.
FIVE times I had my briefcase X-rayed (I was beginning to worry about my flim in the briefcase) did the metal detector bit and jumped through the hoops to be able to board flights.
After almost 2 days of travel I am home! The next morning as I was looking for some medicine in my CARRY ON briefcase what do I come across but my KNIFE! After cutting the Spam in Damascus I mistakenly put the knife in my briefcase instead of my checked luggage.
Little wonder the lady's handgun was not spotted in Atlanta. Once I can understand but FIVE times? I am including a pic of my knife, it's no monster but its a hellofa lot bigger than your run of the mill pen knife.
