Woman and pistols, a question to the females here.

OR...

Get a revolver!

Scott
This is not always the best solution.
Most revolvers have a rather heavy double-action trigger (usually more than 10 lbs).
I've met lots of women who have a very hard time keeping the sights on target while pulling that heavy double-action trigger, especially during rapid fire.
Overall, I think that revolvers are much more difficult for women (and those with compromised hand and finger strength) to shoot accurately than the typical semi-auto.

Trigger jobs

I can very easily, at little cost, have a Wolff trigger installed and reduce the double-action pull of a revolver.

I cannot safely put lighter recoil springs in a semi-auto.

Therefore, it's easier to make a revolver suitable for elderly or weakened hands than it is to find a semi I would trust, with the exception of some .22LR autos (recoil spring is light enough that these would be feasible).

Perhaps, but the trigger pull apparently isn't the OP's wife's issue. As he said:
...her biggest problem is it is hard for her to pull the slide back.
Besides, if she has difficulty pulling the slide back under "normal" circumstances when she has plenty of time and isn't under any pressure, she'll never be able to master the TRB technique if the semi-auto ever jams.

I had my Ruger SP101 worked on by my gunsmith, who lightened the trigger, and smoothed it out. I guarrantee that anyone can smoothly pull that trigger. Gunsmiths can do marvelous things with triggers and actions and springs and things. My SW642 had a wonderful trigger right out of the box.
Snap caps are great for practicing trigger control. They're cheap too.
