Wohali Riflescopes: Any Opinions?

Lg, by suggesting you put your money towards a scope of known quality and/or at least longevity of production, we all answered your question in a round-about way.

!st dont over power yor gun, there are some bushnell 3X9X50 dusk til dawn new scopes on ebay just got 0ne for 58 bucks I now own 5 bushnells and fire well into the hundreds of rounds through them still going strong. good luck with it

If you can save... a Nikon Prostaff is a very decent scope for the money. I have been there and needed a cheap scope. Believe it or not... BSA has still never done me a wrong. I had a BSA scope on a .17HMR Marlin I had. I was on a college budget so I couldn't go crazy. Believe it or not... the scope sighted right in... and stayed on zero. It was responsible for the deaths of MANY MANY wood chucks. HOWEVER... around 200 yards the clarity (or lack there of) becomes considerably more noticeable. If you have to stick to a "less expensive" scope... BSA might be good for you, however I would much urge you to pick up a Nikon Prostaff... often times you can find the 3-9 on sale for $100. Plus Nikon comes with a lifetime warranty.

It appears that these Wohali scopes and many others out there with unrecognized names are made by Ncstar. They are a major Chinese scope manufacturer (check Wikipedia) and can make them under your name if you want. Compare between the brands and you will see identical looks, they change the windage and elevation controls a little but otherwise identical. That being said the optics may change from brand to brand. I tried a Barska (Chinese made) and have been very satisfied. I don't know about any of the others but reserve opinion until I actually try one. I have to laugh at all the negative comments about the low cost scopes by people who never tried one. If you tried one and it was junk OK, that's helpful info. By the way you should check that computer you used, no matter what name is it has it was probably made in China is it junk?

A Sony made in China is still a Sony.

A Wohhloi made in China is still Chinese junk

Not very useful commentary Wild.

Are you against only "Made in China" rifle scopes? What about other gun related stuff from China?

So you don't carry any "Made in China" gun accessories in your store?

twins, China has over the years produced some high quality tech gear, the Iphone being most prominent. Quality rifle scopes have so far not appeared to be a strong point in Chinese manufacturing, probably because it involves a lot of low tolerance machinery and not a lot of cheap physical labor. If, as stated throughout the thread, Waholi is nothing but rebranded NCStar then Ken's not far off in calling it junk.

All depends on the company behind the product. Right now, Chinese optics suck becasue their isnt a reputable scope company to spec them and QC them.

Other companies that manufacture in China SUPERVISE their product.

I would have to agree with Wild. You money is going to be better spent else where.

Like I said... Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 are often being sold right around $100. That is the same cost your looking at for your off brand name. The prostaff isnt the best scope in the world but they are a decent scope... and Nikon comes with a lifetime warranty.

For years I used a 6X24 Tasco on my old 220. It worked just fine and it even held its zero quite well. I shot many tiny groups with that gun-scope combo and quite a few coyotes. It wasn't as good a scope as the Leupold I replaced it with, but it cost 1/8 as much. I suppose that a Tasco is still decent, though I haven't had one in a few years.

im with wildalaska on this. He may be a bit gruff in his answers but hes just trying to help you from wasting your money. Spend that money on that junk and good luck if it goes bad which i would guess WILL happen in the furture. At least with a bushnell, nikon or even a tasco they will replace it or fix it for nothing and will still be around to do it in 20 years.

Seems to me, as with almost all purchase related questions, that no one in America considers buying second hand anything... why do you want to spend $100 on something new but junk when you could buy something older and well made? ditto rifles etc... or am I just super frugal (my wife calls it something else..)
:)

Seems to me you should read the whole thread before bashing Americans. I specifically mentioned finding a good used leupold off ebay as I have done several times in the past to save money.
Regarding the topic at hand, it also seems to me the op came in to this thread with a chip on his shoulder regarding those of us willing to spend $200+ for quality before $100 for crap. He didn't get the answer he wanted and ran away instead of trying to learn from those of us who've been there.

Whoa... no bashing here MDD, you're the only one to mention buying second-hand.. but you have got to admit that most of the questions regarding buying something have a trend of answers favouring purchasing new. Thats all I was pointing out. For my money when you buy a telly or a fridge then new all the way.. but when you're after a after a rifle/scope then there are some great bargins out there and a much bigger range.. esp over there! I'm just jealous about the selection you guys get for what seems very little money.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions. It's hard to tell someone's intent via a keyboard but it usually seems people from other countries enjoy getting a dig in on us. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Probably the reason why nobody mentions buying used that often is because it can be difficult to find exactly what you want without paying new price. The last scope I purchased used was a VX-II Leupold. I purchased it through an eBay auction for 20% less than new price. However I've also seen that same scope sell used for $40 less than new price. For that small of a difference in price, I would sure buy new.

for cheap scopes the barska's seem to be good and the bas's are ok to

i have a barska 6-24X50 varmenter on my 223 and its clear and holds center well as i use the target turets at at 60 bucks out of natchez you could buy it and if you dont like it your not out that muck

as for BSA i have a sweet 17 3-9X40 on a 17hmr and it works great and is clear too

and i do have leopulds and nikons as i do prefur them its not always the way to go

Not trying to put MOA or anyone down... but I think a big thing is too is someones experience with optics. I too used to pick up a BSA I had and think it was clear, and compare it to my Nikons and Leupolds and think to myself... not too much difference...

Fast forward when I got to mounting scopes for customers... and you get to look down a Zeiss or Swarovski... definitely out of my price range, but once you look through one... your almost spoiled. I can't ever look at my Leupolds the same way again.:D

I didn't used to buy in to the major differences in glass quality until I had such an extreme example as that.

I did recommend the BSA for a cheap scope... like I said however... around 200yards they are less than clear.

I do not make a lot of money.Top line scopes are more than a month's pay.
My CZ 22 mag has a Burris 6x compact I had Burris set up with a LR duplex.
It cost nearly what the rifle did.My AR Frankenrifle .223 has Pride-Fowler 10x with the 800 reticle. That,BTW,was my idea of saving some money on a scope.
The DPMS 308 has a Leu VX 3 3.5 to 10 B+C that I robbed off my 30-338 because I set up a quasi-DMR type AR for my son-in law and put my VX3 2.5-8 mildot on that.My $600 Win 70 Laredo has an older Leu Vari-X 3 4.5-14-50mm mildot M-1 30 mm tube longrange. To replace it would cost twice what I paid for the rifle.
Why am I telling you this?I suggest the rifle/scope combination is an outfit.Folks agonize over caliber and what rifle to buy, then look at the scope as some accesory to hang on it as cheap as possible. The scope is 1/2 the setup.I think it might make more sense to buy a quality scope and hang a bargain rifle under it.
But,that is just my opinion, you do it however makes you happy.
