Wnchester pre64 30WCF experts.. Do you hunt with your antique ??? I think I need one.

agree with STONEY on the loading gate scratching your cases... tougher to do, but these can be rounded off, but since the steel is so much harder than the brass, these rough edges often will never actually "polish" out from just regular use...

I've never dated mine, but it is also stamped 30 WCF

6th one down in this rack ( sorry... old pic )

I just bought a Model 94 with production date in the mid 50's. Seller said it may have been restored.
It does not have the normal stamping on the left side of barrel near reciver that says winchester model 94 30-30.
Instead it has a small stamp at back of barrel in the center.
It is a very light stamp that looks like a P on top of a W.

The stamp is about the size of a pea.
The same stamp is also on the top of the receiver close to where the barrel goes into the receiver.

My question I have: is this this a winchester barrel

Yes - It's a replacement barrel from the Winchester Parts Dept, commonly sent out to gunsmiths for use in rebarreling rifles for whatever issue.

So a replacement barrel only has the proof marks and nothing else?

If it looks like this, its a factory installed barrel.

I just picked up a 1952 model 94. Not a museum piece, but a very nice looking and shooting carbine. I'm looking forward to hunting with it.

I don't have a 94 but I do have a very nice 1947 vintage model 36 Marlin I use year round as a working "ranch "gun. It will probably out last me!

1932 eastern carbine... wouldn't use anything else here on the west side of the Cascades in WA for blacktail woods hunting... never failed me with a 170 grain "whatever I can get my hands on".

Once and a while I get the urge to grab an old 99 and go hunting. Problem is: I'm an antique too! Have a hard time seeing small spikes when doe hunting without a scope.
