Wish I could get the wife on board with self defense!

Mine doesn't care for guns at all - but she can outshoot me any day of the week if she's in the mood to:)

She has shot with me a of couple times, but has no interest in it.

The best I have been able to do thus far is just to make her aware of where in the house they are and whether they are loaded or not - for the purpose of defense as well as so they can be better secured should a friend of ours bring her child over and I am not there to secure them myself.

Is yours the jealous type? I ask because the greatest interest that my wife has shown in going to shoot with me recently was after a rather comely friend of hers and I got to talking guns and she wanted me to take her to shoot some of my larger framed weapons as she's looking for a better house gun than her SW BodyGuard. Hate to say it, but it worked - all three of us went to the range and had a great time.

When me and my wife met in college she had never really been around guns and thought all of them were dangerous. She said she will never have a gun in her house. So it told while we were still dating that she will never be in my house. I told her that she was going to be with me and my guns or I'll basically find someone else of like mind.

12 years later, she now owns her own pistol and enjoys shooting and even my 7yo daughter has her own deer rifle (.223). I did make one compromise with my wife though, she said no guns for the girls until they are 7, so I happily agreed. Life has been great since she accepted me and my target shooting/hunting habit. :D

Quote. But the wife just just doesn't like guns in any shape or form and thinks I'm paranoid for my thinking on the matter.. Took her to the range to fire my 9mm and she hated it. She is not interested in learning any self defense plans at all

Did you stop to think shes right. ;) My wife hates guns to. Waste of time tyring to change her mind i have to except it.

I always ask ladies who want something for protection - but not a gun- a simple question. I am 6'5" and well north of 350lbs. I spent a lot of time in the gym all throughout my younger years, and still carry a decent amount of muscle under my middle aged blubber. :o

That said, I ask them very directly if they could have any weapon of their choice aside from a gun, do they honestly believe they could fight off me or someone similar if attacked? You'd be amazed at the change in attitude when reality sinks in.

Do you own a shotgun? This may sound dumb, but look for Federal's breast cancer shells. They are pink, and somehow have a way with women. Well, atleast my wife. She likes guns, but when she seem them at the store she had to have them. Since she like my double barrel the most out of my 12 gauges, also my hd gun, we took it. Before she forgot about the automatic safety and had slow reloads. By the time she was done, she could reload fast and remembered the safety everytime. So, maybe some pink shells will help your situation.

Have her check out the "Cornered Cat" website. Some things need to be explained to a woman by another woman. My wife was not willing to carry when we were first married although she knew how to shoot very well. One night on a business trip to Chicago some creep tried to get into her hotel room (big name hotel on the lakefront). It scared her pretty good. When she came home she immediately wanted a carry gun and some instructions on deadly force. Most women don't want to even think about what might happen to them when they're alone. Once they do though they "get it".

Agreed. My wife never wanted a gun in our house. Only tolerated my desire to have hunting/self defence firearms.

This changed one day, several years ago, when she came home from work. She broke down crying. (it takes a lot to make her cry) She told me: "I want a pistol and you are going to show me how to use it!" She worked in an ER and had just witnessed the aftermath of a home invasion/rape/murder that had just happened to a family in town.

It made me feel better that she now wanted to learn firearms, but made me sad that she had a brush with the really dark side of humanity.

Good news is that nowadays she actually enjoys shooting practice, for fun.

My wife used to hate guns...

... but now she tolerates them. She even has her own Taurus .38 snubby in a quick access safe in our bedroom. This came to pass because we had our house broken into and there has been a bunch of shenanigans the last several years in this neck of the woods.
It was at my urging that she get a gun for home defense in case someone breaks in when I'm not home, or even if I am. My brother in law suggested we take a firearms safety course which we did and it dispelled some of her notions such as that guns were dangerous just sitting on a table. Like they were going to go off on their own.
The course was great with 3 instructors and one being an ex cop. While my wife does not conceal carry like I do she goes out and shoots every once in a while and she tells me she would be able to use her gun if she had to. She will probably never love guns but she is much better and I'm glad we took that course and would recommend it for every couple.
