You can (maybe) save yourself a lot of heartache by taking it to a smith who knows Winchester 94s.
First, it's most likely, statistically speaking, that Hawg Haggen is right.
I had the same thing happen with a newly purchased (online) Win '94 .44magnum and it was not because of a worn cartridge stop.
Thinking it was, I spent a lot of time and some money acquiring a new lever link (with, of course, new cartridge stop) then spent some aggravation installing it.
Then, when that didn't work, I took it to a smith (over 200 miles away) that was a "winchester-approved" shop. Six months and $200+ dollars later, it finally works.
I wish I'd started with the smith in the first place.
Upside, I now have an extra lever link in case I ever need it.
Best,
Will
P.S.: You might get more play with this by posting in the Smithy section.
