Winchester 67

Looking for some old Winchester Experts!
So without serial numbers to rely on and after a look on Wikipedia my sons old M 67 is, I'm guessing about a 1944 vintage.
It is a "boys rifle" with a chrome/nickel bolt and trigger guard.
No grooves in the fore arm and the large non-recessed action screw.
It's in very good shape, just like when I bought it for him 24 years ago, I'm just curious.

Are you trying to determine when your Model 67 was manufactured? Other than Carbon 14 dating (:)), I'm not sure that it is possible to definitively determine what year any Model 67 was made. Most look very much alike and, as you know, none have serial numbers. I'm not sure how you came up with the year 1943 but I'd be surprised if Winchester was spending any time or material on making .22 rifles suited for boys while men were needing rifles for defeating the Axis.

Though there were some variations over time that included metal finish differences, stock configurations and sight types during the time period of from 1934 to 1963 when about 384,000 were being made, I'm not sure how you'd ever be able to pinpoint a year of manufacture for any one Model 67. But I'm no expert (owning one I got as a gift from my father in Christmas of 1957 when I was fourteen years old doesn't make me one :)) and would hope that someone better versed on this interesting little rifle than I might be able to help you out.

I will add that the boy's version or "Junior Rifle", having the 20" barrel and shorter stock, fetches about 15% greater value in the collector's market-not that your son would ever consider selling it.

Go over to the Winchester section on "rimfirecentral" and ask your question. The folks there should be able to give you an "era" based on description.

I was going by some of the changes listed on Wikipedia knowing that there may be some errors in their information. Not a big deal at all.:)
 
Do what Michael said about rimfire central. There are a couple of guys that hang around on the Winchester section that can get you pretty close on the date for your rifle.

I joined the site you recommended and have gotten a response already. These little rifles are pretty hard to pin down as far as age and it would seem that either the trigger guard or takedown screw may not be original!:eek: I think I'll just have to get over it. ;)

And I do know this much about it!:)
It is an excellent rifle for a beginner. My son would have to have me cock the firing pin because of it's tension(he was about 4 or 5). He later gained enough grip strength to do it himself (motivation).;)
The safety is very visible also being right in the line of sight.
The weight and length of pull are perfect for a little one.
Sweet little rifle!
