Winchester 1886 vs. Sharps 1874 accuracy

How does the Miroku behave with cast bullets? I've read somewhere that some of these guns had fairly shallow rifling that precluded the use of lead. I'm curious because I would like another 45/70 to go with my Pedersoli Sharps. BTW: mine shoots one handload/handcast five shots into 1/2" at 100 yards if I do everything right.

I have a Browning 86 in 45/70 that shoots very well and I would not hesitate to take in on a hunt anywhere. I think the "good" Sharps will probably outshoot the 86 for groups as I own a couple of Shiloh's that are excellent shooters. Due to a major problem I had with a Pedersoli 45/90 sharps I wouldn't buy another one of them, but the Shiloh's or C. Sharps rifles are good quality.

Miroku'86 likes cast just fine, but it still isn't a m.o.a. rifle. I would not expect to do much good at a benchrest shoot with a '94 .30-30 either. That's life. Embrace it.

Jim Watson; Great point, you are correct, much, if not all of the Buffalo hunting was over by 1886. I wasn't thinking when I posted... :) But, I would still say the Sharps has the edge at longer range. And I'm a huge 1886 Fan too!
