This is an excerpt from VetoTheGov:
SITREP: 7/20/99
In my failing efforts to keep everyone informed as to what
is and is not happening regarding our efforts to Referendum
SB23 I will be posting these periodic Situation Reports.
This is the first.
Yesterday the Governor signed SB23. I visited the Secretary
of States office to get the final coordinating materials we
need. Today I am submitting the referral letter to the
Attorney General.
EVERYONE WANTS PETITIONS! BE PATIENT.
Here's the deal: Although I have petitions drafted, they can
not be posted or distributed UNTIL the Attorney General
issues the Title and Summary of the Bill. This should take
about ten days. HOWEVER, the 90-day deadline to
accumulate signatures does not start until the issuance of
that Title and Summary.
So, although you may be frustrated with not being able to
get signatures TODAY…we have more time to get the word
out and establish the network.
WARNING: Someone has already sent an email
instructing people to get a petition and mail it to
another organization. DO NOT DO THAT. The O N L
Y address petitions should be mailed to will be
announced in a day or two. That is the ONLY
address to use to mail petitions.
All petitions will be sent to one central location in
Sacramento. They will be collated BY COUNTY and prepared
for the submission package to be delivered to the Registrar
of Voters in Each County. I am preparing a protocol for two
person teams to receive the County packages deliver them to
the Registrar of Voters and collect a receipt.
More annoying details will be forthcoming.
HERE IS AN EXCEPRT of his latest column, talking about Australias disastrous gun ban/buyback:
"This insidious legislation closely mirrors the tragic failure
Australia implemented last year. Australia spent some half
billion taxpayer dollars to confiscate and destroy a bunch of
weapons. Although non-compliance was high, over 600,000
weapons were confiscated and destroyed. One year later, the
results of the Australian experiment were posted. One year
after gun-owners were forced to surrender 640,381 personal
firearms to be destroyed, including semi-automatic .22 rifles
and shotguns, a program costing the government over $500
million, the results suggest what California can anticipate.
Observable facts, after 12 months of data:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent.
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent.
Australia-wide, armed-robberies are up 44 percent
(yes, FORTY-FOUR PERCENT).
In the state of Victoria, homicides-with-firearms are
up 300 percent.
Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady
decrease in homicides-with-firearms (changed
dramatically in the past 12 months).
Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady

There has been a dramatic increase in break - ins -
and - assaults - of - the - elderly.
At the time of the ban, the prime minister said,
"self-defense is not a reason for owning a firearm."
