If you read between the lines when listening to the Democrats on the talk shows, they're already conceding to Bush with this caveat: they're going to do a recount after inauguration. And they're going to constantly preach to the press about Bush not having legitimately won the election. Everything he proposes will be criticised because he's not really the president.
That being said, he can rise to the task and do it. Bush will never be able to get the media on his side; no conservative has ever been able to do that. But he can get the "journalists" to like him, by giving them access and time. He can get in front of the people more than Clinton ever did (two press conferences a year), and let them know how and why he's doing what he's doing.
The real question is whether W is up to it. We won't know for several months. Maybe even longer, if Al refuses to vacate Washington.
