Will the Chiappa rhino design take over the revolver market?

I think it's an ugly ass gun...others seem to think differently though. I really like walking into a gun store and seeing all those shiny revolvers that use a 200 year old design. It would suck to have those "rhinos" take over...any thoughts?

They've been around for a while and have not yet taken the world by storm. While they may stick around, I doubt if they will "take over".

Not happening. The modern revolver has evolved from over two hundred years of development. While the Chiappa has some unique features, it's more of an attempt to get purchases in a market dominated by S&W, Ruger and Taurus.

I'd wager that even Charter Arms sells more revolvers than Chiappa.

My dealer had a couple of them several years ago, before they moved into their new location anyway.

Haven't seen one since..

They are ugly.

I agree that they are funny looking... Ok, ugly, but I still find them intriguing. The concept is certainly good, at least in theory. It would definitely take a major brand putting out something similar for it to take a real portion of the market share, though. That, and a price reduction - there aren't a lot of people willing to shell out $700+ for a gun they have never tried when they can get something that has been proven over and over to be a good design for a lot less.

i think an innovative an interesting design, I also bet that the flat dies make for comfortable carry. as for taking over the market, I don't think I have ever seen one outside of a gun store or a magazine, so I doubt it. not sure when their patent will be up, I guess around 15 more years, but it will be interesting to see what other manufacturers take on firing from the bottom cylinder will be. I never understood why we haven't made more guns with a center-axis. Rhino's cost too much for the general market, they are all CNC everything from solid metals and don't see them getting much cheaper unless they drop off on quality. I personally do not find them ugly at all.

Taurus.

(I could actually see Taurus trying that.)

Agreed. They seem to like to try new, different and odd (Taurus Curve) things. If they can make it less expensive, I'd give it a try. That way, even if it turns out to be unreliable, at least I didn't spend a lot finding out.

Annie on Covert Affairs rocked one.
