Well we did win the War.... cuz W said so "Mission Accomplished"

However, peace has turned out to be a little more difficult.

Yep. The 'WAR' was to remove Saddam from power. I'm pretty sure that that was a 'clear cut victory'.
The question now is how long until the Iraqis will be able to defend themselves against terrorist without our help ;)

Seems like a misleading poll to me.

I will say, though, that I have been told by older people how things similiar to this happened across Germany for a few years after WWII was over.

You have three definitions of victory. Your idea of victory is ambiguous, which is not clear cut by your own definition.

According to your definitions, we've never had a clear cut victory in any war.

One of our ultimate objectives in Iraq is to promote democracy in the middle east. It'll be a hundred years before we know whether that worked out or not.

Well, maybe we could look elsewhere for an idea about how things might turn out, like Afghanistan. Absolutely non-violent? No. Heaven is the only place that meets that standard. But, the bad guys have had sand kicked in their faces and their toys pretty much broken. The people are engaged in establishing a constitution. The Taliban was in power, now they're not. thats clear cut. The population which was totally subjugated now has a constitution which I'm told recognizes individual rights. If that doesn't qualify as a victory, it's several giant steps down the road toward one.

Seems to be a lot of interest lately in fundamentalist Muslims recruiting in prison
Ahhhh, I see. So this is the "If we'd just left them alone, they'd have left us alone" argument. I hear this often, usually by joggers in bear and mountain lion country.

Not so often from westerners in a war that's been escalating for decades. Remember the Cole? The Tanzania Embassy? Somalia? WTC Version I? WTC Version II? I do. Each of these predated "Bush's" action in Iraq. Perhaps if we'd just ignored them a bit longer, they'd have gone away. Silly Bush.
