Wife went shooting for the first time

Wish my wife loved it. She went from highly interested to, "I'll do it cause I want to be safe, but I don't have to like it," real quick. And that was with 9mm. She ended up getting a .380 for CC.

You know its funny, my girlfriend...all 105 lbs of her...actually preffered my Glock 21 to a .22 we rented at the range. She said the .22 felt like a BB gun :) I was so proud

dinsmore,
You wouldn't happen to be in the twin cities area (Minneapolis/St Paul), would you?
Is that Bill's gun shop you guys were at?

By the way, glad she liked it.
I've been trying to get my wife to go for years. I don't want her to go to an indoor range first, as my gut tells me she won't like it. I have an outdoor place in a state forest that she has finally expressed some interest in going, to shoot some clay pigeons.

If that is Bill's, I think I completely ruined my nephew's opinion of and desire to shoot by taking him there once.
It was the middle of August, we showed up there and their air conditioning and ventilation was not working that day. We decided to shoot any way, as we had made the trip all the way out there.
It was at least 100 degrees in there and there was no air flow moving down range (you could hardly breathe in there from the smoke - I like the smell of burnt powder, but this was truly over powering). Needless to say, we left after about 45 minutes and I don't think he has any desire to shoot a gun ever again :(.

There just isn’t anything more “sexy” than a woman shooting her mans gun … better than him lol. I hope that doesn’t make me a sexist … hmmm.

Don’t worry too much about “asking her to lean forward a little more.” I am sure we all had bad habits when we started shooting. It’s way more important for the new shooter to be relaxed and enjoying his/her experience without feeling they are doing something wrong … u know.

Its awesome that you both get to go out together!

The only thing better than another person entering the world of practicing our 2nd Amendment rights is that it's a female. More the merrier, I say. One of these days, the general public will catch on that it isn't a gender thing, it's a liberty thing.

I do see her leaning back a bit, too. Yes, it should be corrected rather early. But I wouldn't sweat it, yet. The exposure to shooting and trying to practice safe gunhandling is quite a bit to handle mentally as it is. Mention it to her during the session, but don't harp on it. The key is to have regular sessions. Whether dry firing 5 minutes every day or going to the range twice a week, her muscles will get used to the weight of the firearms and tire less. An incident of not having the best form is correctable. An incident due to failing to follow a rule of safety can't....

I discovered the S&W M&P 9mm at the side match at the Carolina Cup IDPA Match. It felt more like a 22 than a 9mm. If I were new to shooting, I'd look real hard at that platform.
BTW, your wife is cute. Looks like a keeper.

Jeez, should have been online yesterday to see the new comments

dbl bbl daryl, yes, it's Bills, I've had only good experiences there, too bad that one day didn't work out for you.

My wife wants to go shooting with me again soon, and she wants to try out my FNP-9, though it might be a little big for her, size wise, I think she could handle the 9mm without too much trouble.

I think trying her out on a 9mm semi might help her stanse, that revolver is heaver than my FN, otherwise, we'll take things slowly, and get her into the right form.
