Wife went shooting for the first time

Took my dearest to the range tonight. it was her first time ever shooting any kind of a firearm and she had always been a little afraid of guns. I thought this would be a good way to alleviate that fear a little. she put 100 rounds of .22 through a 10shot S&W revolver (being an idjit, i didn't check the model, and don't kow revolvers) and darn did she shoot well. It was a great "date" for the two of us. I asked her what she thought, and I think I have another shooter in the family now.

Congrats on introducing your loved one to the world of guns! Now, if I may be so bold, try handing her a 9mm next time out. Im sure she will love it. My wife did....Heck, my wife even learned to love the .45ACP (after her 3rd or 4th time out).

Either way, although Im not a huge fan of the .22, Im glad that your wife found it fun. Again, Im sure the 9mm will provide similar results. Give it a try....

OUTSTANDING! My wife and I have been shooting together for over 30 years! Great target group and remind me never to make her mad!

She was a bit tired after the 100 .22 rounds, but wants to try my 9mm next time, and besides, if I let her shoot that, I might never get it back:eek:

LOL....After my wife shot a 9mm for the first time, I was then "encouraged" to buy her a Sig Sauer! :)

LOL, good point, maybe I'll have to have her try a 1911..

Heh, lets just hope that whatever she falls in love with is a) capable of stopping an attack, b) easily concealable (assuming a CC permit is in the works one day) and c) fun to shoot...often. ;)

For my wife..and myself, the 9mm or .40 S&W fits the bill (as we both CC). But, for HD...its all about the .45ACP, which my wife happens to love as well (thank goodness). Now, Im simply waiting for the chance to introduce her to the ways of the 12 ga. shotgun!

I'm a fan of 9mm, we both have small hands, so if she gets to that point I'll probably try her out on a 9 compact or subcompact, she's only 5'3'' and really thin, so concealing would be a problem, except in her purse, which could hold an SMG

Probably a 10rd Model 617.

Was the scarf to protect her from getting brass down her collar, or was she just being fashionable? :D

Then, I suggest taking a look at the Sig Sauer P239 (3.6" barrel) or the Springfield Armory XD9 sub-compact (3" barrel). There are others out there to be sure, but these are my (as well as my wifes) personal favorites.

in her mind fashionable, in my mind safe, if she had shot a semiauto

I'm going to get the XD9sc for myself actually, so it would be she could try out

I'm going to get the XD9sc

Good choice, IMHO. I have a XD45ACP and love it. An XD40 sub-compact (for CC) is in the works as we speak. My second choice would be the Sig P239, but only due to cost. My wife, as I mentioned before, has the P239 DAK 9mm and we both love it. Its a tempting weapon (but I would prefer it in .40).

Sounds like she is going to really enjoy shooting. She is off to a good start.
May I suggest though, ask her to lean forward a little more. She will not get tired as quickly from leaning back. It`s hard to tell from the pics, but is she left handed? Looks like she should move her hand higher up the back strap.
Just trying to help her shoot better. :)

she's right handed, left eye dominant, and, yes, I mentioned her leaning back, as she says, she was compensating for the gun feeling heavy to her, I'll work on her form more next time, this time I wanted her to just have fun :)

Its funny you mention this in that Im still trying to get my wife to do the same. After this weekend though (Im introducing her to the 12 ga. shotgun), Im sure she will force the habit! ;)

I'm glad she enjoyed herself. I wish I could introduce my wife to the shooting sports. My gunclub makes it a little difficult because all guests have to have a CCW permit in order to be guests. Plus, she's really indifferent to it and would prefer to spend her free time shopping at the mall :barf:

Glad to hear she had a great time. I took my gorfriend shooting when we first started dating. It was like giving a tiger a bucket of blood. not long after she asked me what it took to get her CHL. I placed a few calls to friends that are instructors and surprised her by paying for her class (cost me a deatail job on the instructor's wifes suburban while the class was going on). After she got her CHL her stepdad took her to a gunstore and let her pick out her own. She now shoots with me whenever we can get the time together to go to the range when the weather is nice enough.

her smile really did say it all, she went from being slightly afraid to loving it, although the guy shooting a .460 a couple lanes over did make her jump the first time he fired. but then again, after hearing 9s and 45s all night hearing that thing made me jump too!
