Wife is in labor:D:D:D:D;
if she can hold on till midnight (its almost 5pm EST here) and we have an Independence Day baby I would like to pick up a rifle/handgun to commemorate the occasion.

Suggestions? What screams USA to you?
CMP Garand?, nice bolt action?, a .22? Colt SA? 1911?

I have 18 handguns, no 1911.
I NEEEED a bolt action in .22 WMR.
Ruger 10/22 takedown?
Another AR?

Lend a friend a hand with a fun decision to make:D

If you need a big occasion to get a new gun, and labor is the occasion, then buy a cannon. A Big Cannon...

This post is awesome. No joke. I think it deserves post of the year lol. His wife is in labor and all he is thinking about is buying a gun. Hahahah. One day when I have a kid I will do the same, but I will be asking my wife's opinion just to see her reaction lol

But anyways. Get an AMERICAN made 1911. It was designed in America so you must get an American brand since your birth is hopefully going to be on Independence Day. Can't go wrong with a 1911.

LMAO, great stuff guys.

P.S. Wife is sitting next to me as I type aware of proposed purchase. Not happy, but aware;) Shes a patriotic gal:D

Good luck my friend,,,

Good wishes to you, your wife, and child!

Not wishing your wife 7 more hours of labor,,,
But how cool it would be to be "Born on the Fourth of July".

Definitely an American made gun,,,
I can't think of anything more appropriate than a Colt 1911.

Except for maybe a Colt SAA.

Good fortune to you and yours.

My wife just delivered our baby girl three weeks ago. In all the excitement, I forgot to register for the desert sheep draw in my state, and missed the deadline. Bummer. Maybe next year.
Her birthday was by far the best day of my life. I could not have possibly anticipated how much joy I would feel.

My wife said the OBGYN told her no sex for 6-8 weeks.

(deleted) ... tsk, tsk.

First off: Congratulations to you and your Mrs. I hope all goes well [and goes quickly]. Might I suggest an M1A? That's pretty darned American, and few things scream "Serious Rifle" like one of those beauties. P.S.:Ranger55, thank you so much for that posting....and for causing me to spew Mountain Dew all over myself.:D

Best wishes to the expectant couple. I hope all is well with all involved.

OK, guns for an American born on the Fourth of July.
In chronological order, first is the American Rifle, more commonly today referred to as the Kentucky or more accurately as the Pennsylvania Rifle. Those long muzzle-loaders are as American as it gets, and they helped win the revolution that got this country started.

Next, a Colt percussion revolver, a Paterson would be good, but anything through the 1860 Army is fine, my preference would be the 1851 Navy.

From a bit later in history, a Henry rifle (not the modern Henry company, the 1862 type or a reproduction if any are made in the US) or any of the Winchester lever actions through the Model 1895, with prefernce given to the 1866 or 1873.

There you have some genuine American classics, and some that really meant something in the development of firearms. A Smith and Wesson first model .22 rimfire revolver, a Sharps percussion rifle, or any John Browning design would not be out of place either.

Whatever you choose, have fun with it.

National Match M1A, CMP M1 Garand, Full Size Colt 1911.

All those handguns and no 1911...I vote Colt 1911, potentially later customized by Brown, Baer, Nighthawk, etc.
