Wife gave me a 30 lb weight loss challenge

This sounds to me like the OP's better half wants to keep him around and has found a good way to motivate him to lose some lbs. I do not see a problem with this.

Mannnnn, I wish my wife would cut a deal like that with me. I can't stand to lose 30 pounds but I'm sure we could work something out. She obviously loves you very much : )

My wife promised me a Beretta 92 FS Inox if I got 20 pounds off. I joined Weight Watchers online and we are starting our pistol shopping next week. I am feeling so much better that I am going to get at least another 10 pounds off. The incentive of the pistol was good, but the real reward is feeling better, looking better, having clothes that fit better, having more energy, etc.

Guys, before we go any further ... has anyone actually paused to think why he needs his wife's approval in the first place?

A lot of married couples share their money instead of having separate accounts. It would be selfish to go out and buy what you want constantly. Getting approval to spend the money you two share on expensive items doesn't sound outrageous, im sure some of you would not be happy if your wives went out and bought over $1000 worth of things you will never use.

Well dont keep us in the dark about this, what kind of pistol or AR are you looking to get?

Also, funny how the dynamics of man and woman differ so much. I cant even imagine the hell I'd catch if I used weight loss as an incentive on my girlfriend.

Maximus, not too sure yet. One thing is for sure though. I only have 90 days to use my pistol permit. As far as what I have my sights set on to buy? I am thinking 4" Smith .357, or Colt 1911, or Beretta 96A1 to go with my 92A1. As far as the AR-15, I have no idea. I don't know too much about the pros and cons of the different makes. So I plan to do some research in different forums to see whats what as far as that goes.

Thanks for the support, all. Dave, awesome accomplishment, your wife should definately throw you a bone for that.
One thing I don't understand about weight loss is this. When you are overweight, you are actually carrying around extra weight with you. Shouldnt that make you more in shape that if you were lighter? Like, a 260lb dudes' legs are trained for walking around 260 lbs. That same guy looses 60 lbs now hes 200lbs. Now his body is only moving 200lbs around all day instead of 260. Anybody see what I am saying?

One word, goingape: "Two-a-Days"....

I read a story a couple years ago about some guy who wanted to join the Army. He spent his AMs pre-breakfast, his lunch break, and after dinner walking a several mile loop. He lost like 50 lbs and passed the physical.

Ok, so he was doing 3-a-days, but I assume that "if you have a wife, then you have a life," so you will have to focus a bit more and share a bit more.

Good luck with that.

oh man, you're all set.

i once lost 20 in three and a half months. its certainly doable.

granted at the time i was an amatuer fighter how was burning weight accumulated by drinking and lazyness, but still.

if you can eat half decent and work out good, you're made buddy.

dropped juice, soda, and french fries + potato chips

Seems to work. I skip lunch now and again, or have just enough, just late enough that I don't eat someone on the way home.

I also started biking 7.25 miles to work and the same back home, but this time UP the hill at the end. Different proposition altogether.

I credit myself a couple of bucks toward the gun fund for each leg. $5 for each lunch I don't buy.

Oh, tater tots don't count.
