What she wants/likes is best. Introduce her to the SIG p232; it's .380, hammer fired with decocker. No safety to worry with when gun is needed. Some folks don't like the pull of the DA part, doesn't bother me. One can cock the gun pulling the hammer, if preferred. I carry mine with a round chambered, fire first round DA.
 
Bersa Thunder .380 I have 2. I have taught several women to shoot using my Thunders. Couple have bought their own Thunder.
 
Looks like a semi-auto is where she is leaning. My concern is racking the slide with a DAO.striker fired weapon.

Have her try a Gen 3 Glock 19. Mine is the easiest to rack of any of my centerfire autoloaders.
