Wicked-Looking Hollowpoints?

I think the most impressive revolver loads I have seen are 350 grain flatnosed .44 mags a friend hand loads. Don't recall the bullet, but it almost completely fills the chamber throat, both radially and longitudinally. The immediate reaction on seeing a cylinder full is to think "That gun is fully loaded!"

Will Batayte,

Pin Grabbers are bullets made with saw toothed noses for bowling pin matches. The idea is that the teeth will cut into or otherwise grip the pin on marginal hits, improving the chances of blowing the pin off the table. I have never seen them in action or read any test data.

this would not look good in court. Some years ago, I knew a guy with a liberal brother in law. He was at his reloading bench when he saw lBIL coming up the walk. He quickly grabbed a bar of parafin and managed to be stuffing it into his hollow points when Liberal Brother in Law walked in. " Whattaya doing?!"
" Well, I like to put dog crap in my hollow points so if I shoot somebody and only wound him, he'll die later from the infection. I seal them over with parafin to keep the dog crap fresh."

Having painted bullets may cause secondary infections that might not look good in court?

You know, if Ayoob hasn't suggested this as a potential problem, then I would not worry about it. Let's face it, Ayoob publishing on a lot of unsubstantiated worries.

In terms of criminal implications, the only issue at hand is whether or not you had the right to use lethal force. If you had the right to use lethal force in the incident, then whether or not there is paint on the bullets is moot. The only potential criminal charges that could possible result would not be for painting the bullets, but if you painted them with some sort of illegal substance or fired them from an illegal gun.

As for a civil suit. That just comes with the territory. While it may not happen, you might as well count on being sued if you ever shoot anyone. Either the shot person will sue or his surviving family members. Also, count on being arrested at the time of the shooting as a matter of procedure until which time it is determined that the shooting was justified. The range of arrest possibilities include not being arrested, being detained in the short term until the crime scene is sorted out to the satisfaction of the cops on hand, being arrested and subsequently released with no charges, being arrested with charges filed.

In all aspects, it is best to assume ahead of time that you will be arrested and that you will be sued. It is best to assume this as these aspects relfect worst case scenarios for you and the better prepared you are in advance, the better you will be able to deal with the problem.

Hahahahahaha! You have a good eye, sir. That's the only way I could hold the darn thing with one hand and work the camera with the other!

Best.

If you are going to quote Ayoob at least get it right

First fluffy is/was a 4 inch model 66 fitted with the mag-na trigger conversion (you need a special ring with a heavy magnant in it on your finger to make the gun fire) The complete name was: "Fluffy, The gun that only speaks for its owner"
Now as to painting bullets with orange paint. This I have not seen in print. What I have read is this. Stainless(or chrome or nickle - shiny silver colored guns) guns especially bigbore barrels look bigger to the person on the other end of them. this is an optical issusion due to the shinny silver color reflecting the light better.
As you may be able to tell I read a lot of Ayoob. I don't always agree with what he says but I do at least consider the possibility he may be right. I look at the facts, do a bit of research and make my own decisions. His book "In the Gravest Extreme" is still the bible for CCW. The Ayoob files are intresting and one of the first things I read in AH.

Pin Grabbers

These are or were made for bowling pin shoots. The idea of the teeth was to dig into the pin and give the bullet a better chance of downing the pin vs. a glancing blow. Never seen one in person only in print.

The speer Gold Dot is the nastyest looking JHP I ever seen, what a ashtray and they shoot very accurate, everytime I try to get some ,they are on backorder:mad: You should see them in 454 casull in 300gr. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

I know...Take a Dremel tool and carve little gargole heads on the faces of wad cutters. That would freekum out.

By the way, I remember looking down the barrel of a snub nose. The only gun ever pointed at me in anger, at close range. All I remember is seeing that big .44 hollowpoint clearly at the end of the barrel! The light from the cylinder gap showed it quite well. At the time my plan was to keep that bullet in the gun. I did not want to see it come out!

What we got here

Is a Remington Golden Sabre peeking down the pipe of a Springfield Ultra Compact 45 (3.5"bbl). Plainly visible in daylight when viewed in a mirror. My alignment's a little off but then I'd probably be aiming between the eyes, so this is about what you'd expect to see, except in stereo.

For those shooting .45 ACP, take a look at the new Taurus Copper Solid rounds... biggest darn hollowpoint cavity I've ever seen on a bullet! Certainly an attention-getter.
