Why would anyone vote for Kerry

The bottom line is that he insulted a hell of a lot of Veterans with his statement

You can count me in that group. Being a military veteran I will just have to accept the fact that there is no need for me to listen to anything Kerry says anymore because I'm just too stupid to understand him.

"Kerry is a bona fide war hero"

Oh? Better checkout the views of the officers he served with. Most of them joined the Swift Boat Veterans to oppose Kerry when he ran in 2004.

Kerry the Fraud

Kerry was building up his political future even back when he was in Vietnam, his fellow veterans all attest to this being the case. Kerry put in for his "Purple Hearts" for his scratches and sliver in preparation for his political career, so he could claim to be a "wounded combat veteran". Heck, last week my cat scratched me on my hand, according to Kerry's medal standards I should get a Purple Heart also.

Name calling on either side is unacceptable. Kerry's military record is a matter of public record, as is Bush's, such as they saw fit to release. It does no service to either side to call the other "coward", "traitor" or "draft dodger". That has to stop on TFL, now. State the record, or lack of it and stop the name calling. It is counterproductive. It is not convincing. It only serves to harden the other side's belief they are right (read: correct) in their support because you have insulted their choice of candidate.

These men are running for public office. They each have a record in various elected positions. They should run on that record and we can discuss that record without maligning acquaintences of theirs, who had nothing to do with that record. They made and are still making choices in public service. They must explain those choices and decisions. Let's get the emotional drivel down.

All I'll say, is that Kerry, in his infinite wisdom, made a statement, that is not backed up by the demographic/educational facts about our troops.

The fact he refuses to apologize, and now says he meant the current administration, and not our troops, just shows another Kerry flip/flop.

Not only does Kerry's statement show the contempt towards service-members held by someone who almost became Commander-in-Chief, but it is also false.

On the whole, members of the military have a higher education level, higher reading comprehension, and higher cognitive function than the general population. It is also interesting to note that the South and the West have a higher ratio of service members to state population than other areas.

And golly, I'm one of them uneducated, enlisted members of the military (who is now retired), and all I have is a B.S. and an M.Ed...I ain't sure, but I might have more education than Kerry!

I heard the speach, he should have qualified "who" he was talking about...I firmly believe he was talking about our troops.

If he meant the current administration, he should have said so....

I suppose it "might" be a matter of interpretation, however the setting "might" show he was telling those kids to get an education and stay out of the military...otherwise, you'll be uneducated cannon fodder.

Who knows what he really meant...his past record, re the military, might be a good indicator!!!

I find it hard to give the man the benefit of the doubt.

Actually, Bud, I served 1968-71 and 2 years Reserve. I despise what Kerry said and definitely didn't mean to impun the integrity of the men or women that were/are in the Guard and apologize that my words could be taken that way. My stance against politicians, however, whether Dem or Repub, that send kids off to fight wars for financial or political gain is well known. That Bush and Cheny are not totally innocent in this regard was all I thought I was saying.

I appreciate what the Kerry defenders are trying to do. Loyalty is a fine quality.

However, this remark doesn't lower my estimation of Kerry at all.

It was rock bottom already.

I don't think he was trying to say anything bad about our servicemen. He was just looking for a way to insult Bush. He picked a really stupid way to express it. He's bashing Bush just to feed his agenda of trying to further his political career. OK, that's what politicians do. His follow up statement to counter the things said by Republicans was just another attempt to throw mud back at the Republicans. He didn't address the statement he made, he danced all around it. That's why I have no respect for him and wouldn't vote for him.

Maybe if Kerry and Co. actually had a plan, they wouldn't need to spend all their time taking personal shots at the other side of the aisle.

I've seen some gaffs come from politicians, but his remarks about the troops were pretty much political suicide.
