Why would anyone vote for Kerry

Typical Democrat anti-military position expressed once again! I hope this gets picked up by all the media outlets (though I'm sure it won't).

You mean like VP Cheney who got five deferments during the Vietnam War who was telling our soldiers in Iraq these colors dont run?

Why would someone vote for Kerry? because a vote for Kerry is a vote against Bush.

Eghad nailed it.

And what's incorrect about Kerry's statement anyway? Smart kids go to college while poor kids who want to go to college join the military. I knew this growing up, this news to anyone else? Or was he just not supposed to say it aloud?

If anything, he'd know more about the kinds of people joining the military than some people we know in washington...

1. Point is 2 years too late.

2. Kerry is a bona fide war hero, according to the men that served with him, one of whom had his ass saved by John Kerry.

3. Unquestionably, he at least served. In a place where he could be shot at and killed.

4. Bush is a draft-dodger, like Clinton

5. Cheney is a draft dodger, like Clinton.

6. Not sure what he meant by that statement, but it does sound like a boneheaded thing to say. Maybe it was self-effacing, in that he meant that he himself did not study hard, and therefore ended up in Vietnam, as he couldn't avoid the draft. I dunno....

7. Funny how the guys who were THERE and saw, from the inside, all the things that happen in a protracted, unwinnable war, like Kerry, and like the Vietnam Vets *I* know, came back and spoke out against it and are against this war in Iraq as well; yet the ones who are armchair quarterback draft dodgers like Bush and Cheney want to send our boys to die and spend all of our childrens' inheritances to make their war for aggrandizement of their power and to protect Israel.

Make no mistake. Kerry is a weaseling, flip-flopping, duplicitous bedsheet stain. But that doesn't change the facts that he's a war hero and Bush and Cheney are draft dodgers. I would never vote for Kerry myself. But I most assuredly would also never vote for Bush *or anyone who supports him or his illegal powergrab schemes*. Vote 3rd party or stay home; otherwise you are part of the problem.

that quote just spelled the end of the 2008 Kerry/Whoever-For-President campaign...
thanks for the memories, John...:barf:

This thread is about Kerry's absurd statement. Bush served in the National Guard and fulfilled his military obligation, much the same way as thousands of Americans. Are we all "draft dodgers"? Because I can assure you that there are many Guard members right here on this discussion board that might object...

Nobody is questioning Kerry's war record here; the thread is on his statement slammming Vets that even you admit is "boneheaded"... no need to bring up war records here of others...

Address Kerry's insult to every Vet if you wish...

The original post asks this specific question:

Where is his service record and how can he bash our Armed forces,

So the first part of the question is "where is his service record?". The answer is in the possession of the U.S. Navy, and in vast quantities of documented media and eyewitness reports of his service as being real. So KERRY's record is highly relevant to *one* of the questions brought up by the O.P.

The next part is "how can he bash our Armed forces?" Assuming he is "bashing", which is highly arguable - he's really merely stating a fact. But assuming that this IS a "bash" or an insult, the question is, "how can HE bash ...." Implicit in THAT question, to ME, and I believe the intent of the O.P. as well, is that the emphasis is on the word "HE" which brings up the relative positions of Kerry and his former potus opponent (Bush) to be in a position to fairly comment. So their RELATIVE service records are HIGHLY relevant to what I believe the O.P. is really implying, if not clearly stating. Thus, BOTH Kerry's and his opponents records are relevant, since we are talking about a race that is over and done with, 2 years ago - see my point #1 in this regard. But glad you brought that up, to allow me to clarify. :)

Bush didn't have an "obligation" to go into the National Guard, so there was nothing to fulfill. He was never drafted. He joined the Nat. Guard. because his daddy had pull there to get him a cushy assignment to make sure he never saw combat. He effectively "dodged" the draft in so doing this, by my definition (and most people's, I think) of the word "dodge" in this context. Kerry did not dodge the draft; he signed up to go to a shootin war and get in the $**t. So considering their RELATIVE qualifications to comment on the military in general, Kerry is somewhere on an order of magnitude from 2 to 100 times as qualified as flyboy who was guarding the mean skies over the CONUS very well, I'm sure. Maybe Dennis the Menace was shooting his wristrocket at Bush's plane, but that'd be about the only flak he faced. I don't think TFL members' daddies, as a general rule, have enough pull to keep them from doing tours of duty out of the N.G. when the going gets tough, so that's apples & oranges anyway.

And to think that what a guy has to say who was the potus candidate 2 years ago will have any real significant impact on who America votes for in Congress and their state houses, is far overstating the effect of John Kerry's mouth. People are sick of the scoundrels, and of Bush, and a sea change will occur a week from today. This is bad for gun rights, but good for other civil rights, and good for our tax bills. You will see TRUE conservatives (fiscal cons.) and moderate Dems win all over the country, for good reason. "Neocons" SUCK!

On a lighter side

Reading this thread I had a thought( ah oh)
I think I am gonna vote for Elmer Fudd, he hunts wrabbits so can't be for gun control..
I imagine he would as satisfactory to me as anyone else in the running.
Seems like the whole political business has turned into a cartoon.
Man thats a sad statement huh? but sometimes sure it seems that way.

draft dodgers like Bush and Cheney want to send our boys to die and spend all of our childrens' inheritances to make their war for of their power and to protect Israel.

Yes, we all know. The President and Vice-President are deliberately sending American "boys" to die (and are spending lots of money to accomplish this) for the purpose of gaining power and because Israel told them to do it. The President and Vice President like it when our troops die. The President doesn't wake up and review security reports first thing in the morning; instead, he has a meeting with the Vice President so that they can plan how many American soldiers are to die that day. You forgot to mention blood for oil, Halliburton, and that 9/11 was really planned by the Federal Government. Frankly, I know that this is true, because it says so on MoveOn.Org.

2. Kerry is a bona fide war hero, according to the men that served with him, one of whom had his ass saved by John Kerry.

And I have a bridge to sell you in brooklyn.

If Kerry is a war hero its no wonder we lost Vietnam.

And what's incorrect about Kerry's statement anyway? Smart kids go to college while poor kids who want to go to college join the military. I knew this growing up, this news to anyone else? Or was he just not supposed to say it aloud?

Hmmmm, I'll have to tell the three Ivy league Officers I know that they are either dumb or poor. 2 from Harvard 1 from Yale.
I could have went to college out of high school, it wasn't for me at the time. Twenty years later I'm getting ready to retire. I don't feel dumb or poor.

Maybe I am missing something..... Half of the voting population of the U.S. voted for Kerry. They all can't be THAT dumb............... :D

The bottom line is that he insulted a hell of a lot of Veterans with his statement.

The democrats running for office now will bear the brunt of it. Two years from now, it won't mean nearly as much if Kerry runs again. (Which I seriously doubt.)

First Freedom, is membership in the National Guard or the Reserves a prerequisite for Draft Dodger status in your book? You badbob? Obiwan1?

I gave 26 years total: 4 years active duty, 2 years inactive reserve and 20 years Ready Reserve status. On mobilization alert status every day of that time. I was mobilized three different times as a USAF Reservist. I do not count that time in my active duty calculation. Two of the three times I was activated, I came under fire. Direct fire. Both times I was fortunate enough to be able to return fire to the source.

If I do not begrudge Bush his ANG time, why should you? Have you ever been fired on in anger? You may have and I am prepared to hear you say so. But this Draft Dodger crap has a hollow ring to it.

There are many people whom I respect highly, that probably fit your definition of draft dodger. They did not serve a day. So why don't you give us your definition of draft dodger. Let's leave out the "Daddy was rich and in politics and got him out of "stuff". First tell us about your service and then tell us why you qualify Bush as a dodger.
