Why won't Ruger make their .22 auto's easy to take down?

The worst instruction manual I have read is supplied with the Springfield .45Super Longslide. Of all the options the manual describes (regarding the guide rod,) the rod in the Super is NONE. Fortunately, I have taken apart enough semiautos to have a sense of where it's supposed to go. Still darn near impossible to get that spring/guiderod assembled, even though I have replaced the Super spring with an ACP spring.

Yes, manuals are not well-written, either for software or for guns. But then, tech manuals are generally only an afterthought and usually are written by someone who is an outside contractor--they may or may not have ANY idea what the PRODUCT is and does, let alone how to write about it clearly.

I just purchased a new MKII last weekend...

A blued Gov't target model. Very nice.

Asside from the fact that I needed to tap the receiver/barrel off/on the frame w/ a hammer and block of wood, it was easy.

Wanna know why? I followed the instructions.
They are only difficult to follow if you can't read.
Period.
I got it right the first time.

I'll keep the book w/ my cleaning supplies until it becomes second nature.

From The Manual

10. Make sure you can see the end of the hammer strut when you lift the housing up(see figure 10A)
. The hammer strut should go into the oval-shaped cut inside the mainspring housing. Spring pressure sould be felt just before the houseing is fully shut if the internal parts are correctly aligned (see figure 10B) and by following this in the manual I was able to do it the first time.

But I will agree that it took some time the first few times. Once I was able to picture what had to line up in my mind it became second nature.

Interesting. My manual, now gone with the gun, didn't have ANY "figures" illustrating the take-down reassembly process. It just had text. This was in a new manual, about 4 years ago.

Sounds like they've gotten their act together a bit...
