Why? Why do they do this to me?

Angry bears ? Here we have black bears and they're rarely angry .If you meet a big one like the PA 900 lb bear you'll be so scared you'll run out of the woods in no time !
Their big objective is food so they usually ignore people as they have with me.
Use Barnes all copper or Swift A frame bullets and practice, practice. :)

Aren't they prone to not cycling when dirty?

The outdoors can be dirty!!

I clean my firearms after each use and do not use lead hard cast ammunition, or reloaded ammunition in my DE. I have never had a cycling problem with that combination.

Keep the DE clean, use full house loads and jacketed ammunition and I do not see the DE being a problem regarding cycling of the action. I certainly have had more crimp jump problems in my .44 magnum revolver with my hand loads than cycling problems with my DE.

Heck guys, you are making this all way to complex.

Pond just bring your family to Mexico and then cross over at night to the USA. Tell the first cop you find you are Jose Gonzolis.
You’ll get a lot better treatment and welcome than one of our returning combat vet from this government.

Pond just bring your family to Mexico

You know, I've always thought my Estonian wife could pass for a Central American. If it weren't for the tall stature, blue eyes and blond hair!!

Of course, I think I'd need portable mini-gun just to survive the night in Juarez City....

James... If it's either-or... I vote keep the (DA) Redhawk... You'd miss it TOO MUCH!... I know there are tons of fans, but SA ain't that great to me.

You are right, and I honestly think I would part with several other guns before I conceded to letting the RH go...

I really do love that revolver!

As much as I love a Ruger SBH, I don't think I would get rid of a 4" RH to get one. I'm afraid if you were to do that your next post might be in the "Sellers Remorse" thread!

Wait, WAIT!!!!!!

You've got a Ural? :D

Yeah, I'd say the Redhawk would stay. You're vested in it, and neither you, nor anyone posting until now, has been able to find fault with it.

You've got a Ural?

I do.

Black but with stylish amounts of rust and a selectable, locked-diff sidecar wheel drive!!

All posturing aside, I will not sell the RH. I can't think of any of the other guns that I'd like to sell either.

I do simply like the idea of this minimalist, tank-like SA able to wrestle with .44 loads that would make other brands creak at the seams. But the RH already does most of that and in a more convenient SS package, so it stays. If I did not have the RH, and was presented with a choice of both, then it would be a tough call. I expect the RH would still win, but it would be tough.

Now if a SRH in .44 turns up for sale, then all bets are off!!

James:

When people asked me why I carried a pistol in the woods my replay was it was to shoot myself with in case a bear attacked me.

I would have no qualms about shooting a black bear (actually advised if they are aggressive as they are scavengers and that lovely pink meat in the white wrapper qualifies).

In reality it was a tool, noise to scare one off, climb a tree (hopefully if there was time) and proceed to put lots of rounds in one if it would not leave.

Better off playing dead with a brown bear than shoot it (at least US)

as for the old Rugar SA, I forget what years but I had one with the transfer bar (second generation about 1973 I think).

I did not like it as you had to be very sure to keep pulling back on the trigger or the transfer bar would not stay up to let the hammer hit the firing pin.

I sold it and worked my way to a 41 magnum eventually (S&W). I liked the drop in force and its performance equaled a 44 magnum (hand loads you could surpass it). As its a true 41 caliber its not that far from a 44 and it has a bit better penetration.
