Why? Why do they do this to me?

I'm not going to buy anything!!

But that didn't stop me doing a double-take when I saw what looks to be a brand new Ruger SBH in my beloved .44Mag (remember the days when I hated it and thought I might sell the RH?)

It must be a 7.5" barrel (19cm). And an unfluted cylinder. Deep bluing....
Drooool....

My Redhawk is my woods-gun, comfortably manages 275gr@1150fps from its 4", it is easy to carry and reload so it should not feel threatened by the new kid on the block, but nonetheless, the simplicity and sheer ruggedness of the Ruger SA platform appeals a great deal!!

Imagine the FPS from 7.5"....1500?
Wanna play, Mr Brown Bear? Let's see what you got?!
:D

Oh, hateful day....
Thank the stars the SBH is 80 miles away or I might be stooopid enough to actually go have a look...

I agree that the traditional Super Blackhawk with the 7.5" unfluted cylinder and Dragoon grip is a beautiful gun...

I comfortably get 1350+fps from a 265gr Hornady FP in my 7.5" barrel .44 Mag SBH, and according to my manual, I could push that a tad higher...

Here, you can look at mine. Still looks pretty good to be a '79 model.

That is a very nice looking SA!!

I would just like to try one, once, but who has one here: I would not be too surprised if the one advertised were the only one in the country!!

Whoever posts on this thread, please be sure to tell me that trading my 4" RH for the SBH would be a terrible idea!!

Just in case I get a moment of madness!

Normally I don't advocate selling or trading guns, but if it's that rare in your country, it might be a thought...

Terrible idea!

I really like the 4" .44 mag platform. The worst gun trade I ever did was to sell my SS Redhawk 4" (before they were a factory option). It was very accurate. Now I have a blued S&W 29 4" and will never part with it.

I too would enjoy having a 7 1/2" SBH but not at the expense of my 4" DA. The longer SA makes sense for target and hunting. But for defense and woods carry the 4" RH is it!

Revolvers are not so common.
.44 Mags are even less common.
Ruger SA.44 Mags are like hens teeth!!

As much as I like the SBH, my RH .44 is my woods gun. I have also invested in it: Simply Rugged holster, speedloaders, new sights etc. Over here, none of those are cheaper. The holster, for example, cost me about $160 after all the shipping and import duty...

So, getting the SBH instead of the RH would have to mean the SBH is by far the better woods-gun.

I'm not sure it is, even if part of me wishes it were!! It is the better hunting gun, but lacks the "grab'n'shoot" handiness of the DA/SA 4" RH...

Go ahead and buy it.
You know you want it!
and.... it is Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

But you have to tell us how it shoots.....
and pics are a must.

Go ahead and buy it.

Were it so easy....:(

If I buy the SBH, then something would have to go. It would make most sense if it were the RH and it follows that the SBH would need to make a better woodsgun than the RH.

Convince me that it is and I could bite.... But you'll have to counter NWPilgrim's very valid points!! ;)

Even here your 4" RH in it's SR holster would be the ideal woods carry.

You and your rig would be held in high esteem by those who pack a pistol while active in the outdoors and by those of us who hunt with a pistol as a primary weapon.

Somewhere around 5 1/2", barrel length becomes overrated.

If I were to run into an angry Mr. Bear in the woods I hope I had my Desert Eagle XIX in .44 magnum with me. The nine rounds of 275 grain .44 magnum in an autoloading pistol with a 6" barrel would make me happier than an extra inch on the barrel and a few less rounds to shoot.
