Why they hate gun owners.

Glenn: "If Gore and Clinton and Feinstein thought that the votes that would get them elected could come from RKBA folks, they would be on their knees before us."

Precisely. Gore voted with the NRA when his constituency demanded that he do so. When, as VP, the administration thought the media had done a sufficient job of misinforming the public, Clinton/Gore went after the 2nd again. But they overreached, and got their hands slapped in '94. Gore may be betting that his proposals in this campaign are not overreaching; the election will determine that question.

If we look at the committed, though, we see that HCI has 400,000 members and the NRA 3.6 million. We can probably assume that that ratio is relevant out to maybe a factor of two or three in terms of the intensely committed. The rest of the public is either in between the camps or just doesn't care.
We've all seen how easy it is to get the uninformed-but-open-to-discussion folks to embrace at least most of our positions. Without a platform in the media, though, we are dealt a losing hand.

As a teacher, I gently introduce the issue of self - defense. I use Lott's data in stat class. I mention how I shoot and the training I have. I was telling class the other day how I'm going to take another Insights class.

You would be surprised at the positive response I get, I get lots of kids wanting to work with me on firearms related projects.

One set of kids and I gave a paper at the Southwestern Psychological Association. Another presented at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research and did his Math honors thesis on a logistic regression approach to predicting firearms ownership.

This fall, another group and I present at the American Society of Criminology.

I find a rational presentation of the need for self-defense sells.

I even get to natural antis. My very liberal friend (a woman whose husband is away alot) said: At least, there is one thing good about all those stupid guns in TX - people don't break in at night.

My small attempt.
