Why should I choose a Sig?

my SIG P229 = BMW M3: epitome of performance and engineering.

my 1911 = Ford F150: tough, rugged workhorse.

I love owning both. I can't wait to get a BMW.

Well, a Sig P210 is probably the nicest shooting 9mm ever made... if you can find one... or afford one if you find it. :D I got to shoot one and was EXTREMELY impressed. Super-tight, super-smooth, supremely well finished, wonderful trigger, extremely accurate and very soft recoil.

As far as SigSauers go, I had a used P228 and it was accurate, reliable and very well put together. But it felt kinda funny to me and the DA trigger was too heavy, so I eventually sold it.

I have a Sig P226 and a P239. Great guns!!! I bought the P226 almost 30 years ago. I was debating the HiPower or the Sig, until I held them. The Sig fit my hand just right. In the 30 years of shooting it, I haven't had a jam or failure-to-fire that was not ammo related (I had a bad run of reloads). Every factory ammo I've shot in it has resulted in reasonable accuracy and excellent reliability. When I got my CHL a couple of years ago, I bought the P239 since it is easier to conceal. It doesn't fit my hand as well, but I trust it, and it functions the same as the P226 that I've become so familiar with.

However, there are other great guns out there. A friend recently said he wants to buy a full-size 9mm for home protection, and asked me what I'd recommend. He's experienced with revolvers, but this will be his first semi-auto. I told him that he should go to a good gun shop and hold (and fire if possible) a Sig, Berretta, Glock, HiPower, H&K, etc. and buy the one that feels best to him. Of course, I gave him my personal preference for the Sig, and told him that there are several other good manufacturers, but he can't go wrong with these main ones.
