Why put a scope on a short barrel revolver?

You mean ya never watched those shooters on TV bust ballons with a 1 1/2" J frame 38 special at long ranges ???? I think it was Bill Munden busted em at 200yds .

Google long range revolver shooting , there`s people shooting alot more yardage than I would even attempt .

But I`ll say the trick is seeing & practice !!

Like the gentleman that shot the bad guy& helped the LEO from 165yds with his 357 revolver , I`ll bet that were`nt his first shot at that range !!!

It took Bob quite a few shots to dial that one in though.

Even the great Ross Seifried didn't believe a revolver could shoot 1MOA groups until he had a special gun built to do it. And yet, there is a guy that can shoot 1/4MOA with his special Encores all day. Weird stuff.

I put a 2x Leupold on this 3 1/2" Freedom Arms M97 in .45 Colt to do some load testing.

In this configuration, it is a lightweight, handy, and powerful little package.
.
The gun weighs 33 oz, the scope 6 oz, and the base/rings maybe another 3 oz for a total of 42oz. The M97 is rated for Ruger only loads. It is amazingly easy to shoot effectively and with a rest is accurate enough for most applications (including small varmints) to at least 75 yards and beyond for larger targets.
.
I've chronographed 320gr SWCGCs at a bit over 1,100 fps from the 3 1/2" bbl, which should be adequate for most hunting tasks in the lower 48.
.
With that said, it is a "belly gun" and I took the scope off and use it as it was intended.

FWIW,

Paul

Optics help you see the target better at close range just as much at long range. That said I don't want optics on any of my handguns. I don't want a rifle without them.
