Why not buy your ammo online or from local business?

I try to support my LGS when they're half way competitive. I buy powder and primers to save on haz-mat local. Sometimes when I just need a box of bullets to test , I'll buy local. I'm also on a first name basis with the fed-ex and UPS guys.

Heck, check your local mom and pop gun store. You'd be surprised, but some of them have ammo at competitive prices.

I might consider it if there were one of those stores nearby. One of the local stores had milsurp for 3-4X more than it was everywhere else. I'll pass on that, thanks.

Another shop I like doesn't carry all my calibers and is 15 miles in the opposite direction of the range/desert.

Also, money is tight. Even though it may come out to more in the long run, it's so much easier to hit a sporting goods place or a Walmart on the way for a couple boxes. If I buy online, it seems like I need to buy entire cases at a time to come out ahead, which isn't practical at this time.

I try to support local business, but walmart had brass cased .223 for under $6 per box of 20, which is a great price in my area. When they have it I buy all they have. Sometime that is 4 boxes at a time, sometimes 20. I reload some but in my limited free time I would rather shoot. If I do find time to sit and reload I do .45acp and .38spl. only, I can get 9mm fairly easy and the cost to time works out better to just go buy WWB. I do exclusively buy all my personal defense and hunting ammo at my LGS.

Shipping Charges

Not all online dealers charge for shipping.
Ammoman doesn't charge shipping OR handling and his prices aren't half bad.
Graf & Sons charges only a very nominal handling fee and no shipping on any size order.
I have never had a problem with either dealer as to speed of shipping, packaging,or anything else.
Graf sometimes includes nice premiums on lasrger orders-I got a bunch of Birchwood Casey targets on a few orders and a nice set of BSA binocs on another.

The only factory ammo I buy is .22LR and .17HMR. The rest of it I buy online in the form of components. There is no brick-and-mortar store that carries reloading supplies within 50 miles of my home.

Shipping costs to my corner of the world is very expensive so i always go to the local shops. I also have a retired neighbor who reloads as a hobby almost everyday so i buy certain ammo from him fro a small savings and a small profit for his work.

+1 Sandbag ... just got 1,000 rds of S&B 9mm FMJ from ammoman, $209, NO shipping, NO state tax ... and the UPS guy delivers it right to my door ... it's a great deal, IMHO ... I think there are other ammo sales sites that also offer free shipping ...

I've tried supporting local stores, but their prices are far higher than the above, include tax, and require that I burn up $3.50-a-gallon gas to get there ... shooting is an expensive hobby and I try to save money where it's possible ... yah, yah, yah, reloading ... don't have the room or the inclination, tho I understand the reasons many folks do ...

Walmart is charging $17.00 for the Remington 9mm 115gr FMJ

LGD is charging $19.99 for it.

This talk about supporting my LGD because without them I'd have no range...

Well they also charge $20.00 / hr for range time.

I'm going to buy my ammo online.

Greetings
Just another reason to roll your own ! But if you think those prices are bad.. ammo down here has been over $30 a box of 50 38 Specials for 10 years.

"...why not buy online..." Shipping costs will negate any cost savings found on-line. [/QUOTE

Only if you buy small amounts and most online suppliers have a greater selection than your local retailer. Another BIG reason for me, I HATE WalMart, and will do almost anything to avoid setting foot in one of their stores.

I shop around. Sometimes, if I'm in Walmart or Academy Sports and the have a deal, I buy. If no deals to be had nearby, I order online.

Follow the bargains.

Wal-Mart sells the same ammo for a fraction of the price of any of the local guys. I'm not in the business of giving away money for principle, so Wal-Mart gets it. I reload, so it's rare I buy ammo anyway.

I buy a lot from Wal-Mart for purely economical reasons. I also shop online for bigger items to get the best price. Money is money, and I work hard to earn mine.

I typically buy ammunition online, given my preference for Ranger T.
Once every now & then I might buy a box at the local mart.
I have bought reloading components locally, the store has reasonable prices and are friendly.

I will never, I repeat, NEVER, buy anything from Wal-Mart. Strictly personal reasons that I will not go in to.
I buy all my ammo and reloading gear from a local gunshop.
Sometimes may be a bit more expensive, but my money...my choice.
from post #7==note from #7

Good idea, at least I thought that over 5 years ago when I was shooting 45 quite a bit. Blazer 45 at WM was $9.78. So I stopped at the local ma/pa shop near the gun club. SAME STUFF $24.95!!

Sorry, I had several kids feet under the table and in college.

This idea has been around since I can remember. Best idea-buy wher it is the cheapest no matter where. If you have a great dislike for someplace-dont go there for sureIt is your $$$. Be consistant-those places that prohibit on premesis carry-avoid like the plague.

Looks like two sides to this coin-bikerbill, countzero, carry 24/7 and 357 sig agree..

Old bear and orig poster strongly disagree.

Great is the USA!!!
