Why not .32H&R Mag?

32 mag

I cant stop gushing when it comes to 32 mag/S&w long!!!:) My favorite is the S&W model 16 followed by pre-war I frame 32 longs. To bad I dont have the bank roll for a k-32 (if one was available) Ruger also made a fine 32 mag in the bisley set up. I very foolishly traded it in on a model 60 j comp 357 mag! Oh well.
Maybe I should start a new thread about dumb trades/buys/almost buys, but I think its been done.
I dont know about commercial manufactured ammo, I roll my own.

Claypigeon...

I'm with you on the "bird's head" Vaquero in .32 mag. I might have to buy two. I like the shiny one and my wife likes the "mottled" case hardened one. She's hard to please when it comes to firearms too. I've caught her looking at that Ruger Vaquero advertisement several times. Imagine how nice either of those birds head Vaquero's would look in a Doc Holiday cross draw holster.
Man! Just listen to me! I've gotta buy another pistol! It's been over a month since the last one and I'm starting to get the shakes!:D

claypigeon,

I also like the S&W mod 16. I had a Ruger buckeye in .32 mag witht he .32-20 cylinder but I don;t care for regular framed singleactions. I shot my mod 16 a lot and on top of finding some gret loads in mag cases, I have also found that mine likes .32 S&WL wadcutter loads also. I shoot quite a bit of the Longs for plinking.

Heh. "Must...buy...gun. Can't...feel...toes." ;) Been there!

Ah...

The lady knows the feeling.:D It's just beyond my control. I'm a weak man when it comes to the gun store showcase. Something happens.

OH OH OH 32 MAGNUM GABFEST...pitter patter pitter patter

BE STILL MY HEART....
OKAY I ADMIT IT, I'M QUEER FOR 32MAG SIXGUNS...IT MAY BE MY ONLY TRUE CHARACTER FLAW...WELL, THE ONLY ONE WE'LL DISCUSS HERE ANYWAYS... [ sometime ask me about my professional drinking days....]
What do you mean hype??? I told it the way it was, no more no less. I'll tell you this: those S+W m631 32MAG KITGUNS were without a shadow of a doubt the finest KITGUN of all times. I ended up buying the test gun from S+W and you can bet yore last buck if I bought a test gun from anyone it was so damn good that I knew its' like would be hard to ever find again. This dinky little pistol would shoot with the S+W M16 6" 32mag I had all day long. I ended up selling the M16, the only 32MAG sixgun I ever let go, because the M631 was its' equal in every way but a slight loss of FPS.
The only 32MAG I've never owned is a RUGER BISLEY in 32MAG and I'd hock the ranchita for one of those...have missed two of 'em over the years, a day late and a dollar short...I know where there is another one as we speak but I've bought two rifles this week and am so broke right now I can't pay attention...this is GOD'S plan to insure I get the absolutely perfect RUGER BISLEY 32MAG for me...I think.

I sometimes carry a 331. Bought it for my wife a couple of years ago, but she hasn't shot it yet.;) I also keep it full of GA 100 gr. JHPs. Its a great little gun, but I don't buy the selling point that it has half the recoil of a .38. The GA rounds are right up there with a .38 if you ask me. The advantage to the .32 mag, at least in 331, is the weight savings. Several ounces lighter, and one additional round.

Nice round

I think it is very nice round.
Then again I loved the .32 S&W Long out of the little snubbie Hand Ejector I used to have. LOL

32 mag

Terry,

You wouldnt know where i could pick up a s&w 631??:D :D I have lusted over one of those since I saw one at my gun club.
Now, how about the 32-20? I dont have one of those but form what I understand it is comparable with the 32 mag, correct? I did have my chance at a s&w 32-20 made about 1917,correct grips very beautiful blueing, kind of like a nice mirror sheen blue used on the 60-70s colt pythons but didnt have the $$ Darn!!

I think the .32 mag SP101 is a great gun. Very pleasant to shoot with Hogue rubber grips. I bought the gun to keep in the nightstand for my wife. I keep it loaded with Mag-Safe frag ammo and keep two speedloaders with Federal JHP's with it. I beleive that if more ammo manufacturers would get on board it could become a very popular caliber for defence. I wish Speer would bring out a Gold Dot load.. it would be awesome. ;)

Terry...buddy!

Tell us how you REALLY feel!:D
I love the .32 mag too and I thank Tamara for putting me on to my first one. (Taurus 731UL)

This has got to be the best caliber that has never been heard of in the world . I own 2 of the model 16 S&W's that were brought out about 1985 & love them, 1 in a 6" motife the other is a 4".
They are big & heavy and a pure delight to shoot!:D I've already been dressed down for printing a load that I was using in them in another thread, so I won't tell it here but these guns are made on the same frame as a mod 19 & because of the smaller bore they are super strong. I can "garante" that they can be loaded up more than enough to beat any 38+p around.;)
As for a lever gun I think the 1894 Marlin would make a super great little getter for coydogs & robert felines:D

How about it Marlin?:) I'll buy the day you put it on the market.

Butch,
I'm with you on the Marlin 1894 in .32 H&R, oh, yeah! I would be amoung the first in line to buy one of them.

I have a Single Six that Gary Reeder built for me that is really sweet.

My next revolver purchase will be a S&W Model 331.

Since I reload my own I do not see the .32H&R as a problem for ammo.
Regards,
Rich

Paper ballistics don't tell the true story. A 30 caliber (all 32s are really 30) is just not much of a handgun round.

The (Mauser) Russian 7.62 X 25 (a hot 32, probably the hottest) is not a noted manstopper unless the skull is penetrated. Then, like all high speed ammo the results are spectacular.

Likewise the 38 Special is marginal, but w-a-a-y better than any 32.

Big G I'm not talking paper balistics, I'm talking about the way a 32 mag can turn a coyote inside out.
I've shot lots of them with 38's , 357's & 32mag's the 32 is right on the heels of the 357 in the amount of tissue distruction, only a 38 +p+ does better than a 32 , in the 38 spec. line. :)
I handload for all 3 of these guns and the bullets I'm using are all gas checked keith type semiwadcutters, so the comparaison is valid. The only difference is bullet weight, 158 in357, 140 in 38spec. ,95 in 32. :)
The 32 is the best little gun that noboby ever heard of, Much better than it's reputation.

I keep eyeing a Colt SAA in .32-20, at one place. The odd caliber is somewhat more reasonably priced than most SAA's.

A few months back one chap writing in Handloader ran up some pretty jazzy speeds out of a .32-20.

Terry ain't blowin' smoke on this one. The 32 mag is a hell of a great round. I finally got my hands on a cherry Smith 16 four inch(for years gun show shills said only made in 6") and have had a ruger single six too. I want a Ruger bisley 32 so bad it hurts, but I just haven't ran across one yet. Every article Seyfried used to write concerning the 32, he'd have a pic of his bisley, redone by Hamilton Bowen....what a beautiful, classic looking piece!....Long live the 32!

Why not, indeed??? I've currently got two .32 Mags--a Smith 332 and a Ruger SP101--and recently parted with a Taurus 731 in a trade--and I LOVE the caliber!!! Decent "Stopping Power", not too much recoil, even in the AirLite Ti, and it comes in a VERY portable/unobtrusive package!!!....mikey357

I am getting the Ruger single action this week. Using a Hornady 85 grain XTP or the Sierra 90 grain JHP, what is loading data to be factory equilivent?
