Why no Ruger 500?

The Ruger Maximum frame is not strong enough to contain the .500S&W's pressure, assuming it is a five-shot. The .500Linebaugh Long is actually slightly larger but it doesn't run anywhere near the S&W's pressure.

500 Smith And Wesson ... who needs a reason?

I have one of the first S&W models to come off the line ... the reason I bought it ... because I could! New Toy, and it did feel good when carrying up in Alaska!

It all boils down to market demand. The .460 and .500 are niche guns and do not have a high sales demand.

+1
Supply and demand.

Not a huge demand for a $1000-1300 revolver that fires $2 rounds and kicks like a mule. I've seen very few in private collections or at the range. Market is super niche and small. Not enjoyable to shoot.

I'd love to see an honest comparison on the money spent on R&D, tooling, and advertising against the actual profits on the platform.

I wonder if the development of the cartridge was profitable...
