Why no night sights?

I have a pretty simple notion as regarding night sights. If I can see the target well enough to shoot at it, then I'll certainly be able to see my pistol's sights without any extra illumination.

Not if your target is is standing in a well lit area and you are not. At the end of my car port I have a large security light. I know for a fact when I stand in the front door I can easily see/aquire a target that's in the driveway, but my sights are completely blacked out due to the shadows. My night sights are not however.

I suspect many know how night sights "look" but not how well they "work" as most ranges close down at sunset! And will indoor ranges dim the lights for you to try them? But I think anything that helps, cannot hurt. Otherwise I supppose you are limited to point shooting in the dark, which might be sufficient at 10-15 feet, I would think. Or hope....

I've owned a bunch of handguns over the years, and only one came with night sights. That Springfield Loaded Champion is my nightstand gun because the glow of the sights makes it easy to find and index the gun in the dead of night. One of my carry guns is a Kimber Ultra Carry II. I paid under $700 for it NIB at the gun show in Austin a few months ago. The exact same gun, with night sights, at the same stand, was over $900 today. I like the Kimber, but not $900 worth, and I don't need night sights for a carry gun, IMHO.
