Why My Personal Beretta M9s and 92s Work But Your Military Issued One Didn't

My Beretta 92fs is made in Italy

Beretta has been around since the 1600's, so I am going to say, that is probably a good thing. I have no idea if a metal guide rod is better than plastic, but if it is OEM, that is probably a good thing.

I was just pointing it out as i've seen web-r-nets arguments that the Italian made Beretta's are better than the American made. Gun shoots well, $300, not too worried just curious.

Personal experience (anecdotal evidence is another way of putting it) varies. None of the Vets I've been acquainted with had any problem with the M9. All said that some were in better shape than others, but all worked as advertised. I will say that one and all were Marines...noted for keeping their weapons in good shape.

When my #2 son went into the Marines, (had an MP DOS), I bought him a M92FS Beretta to keep for practice. That gun now has had over 7000 rounds through it, by actual count, and still functions just fine. It will still hold 2" gps at 25 yds from a rest. We've neither repaired nor replaced anything on the gun.

YMMV, but that personally owned M92FS and those that he used in while on active duty with the Corps were first rate side arms...albeit in a marginal caliber...(that's the old warrior in me opinionizing).

Edit to add: My Beretta 92fs is made in Italy and has a metal guide rod. Are these two things positive or irrelevant?

Beretta changed the guide rod, mag release and trigger from metal to poly. There isn't any proven change in reliability. It saves Beretta money and it makes the pistol lighter.

Some shooters like the weight change and some prefer to weight of steel parts. Wilson Beretta's have steel parts and a redesigned trigger return spring, something most owners can do themselves for 60 bucks or so.

I would pay more attention to the locking block than the poly parts. Early design blocks are prone to failure, there has been 3 or more "improvements" to the locking block. If I had a early model I would change the locking block before anything else.
