the tru oil is still gassing off. I'm trying to wait as long as possible before I reassemble the shotgun. I applied the last coat of tru oil on Sunday morning. My workshop has been warm and dry. I plan to check on it again tonight, but it may be a few more days before I reassemble.
It's funny how we often think a finish is done once it is dry to the touch. I made a nice shaker table with a drawer for a nightstand a few years ago. I sprayed on a waterborne finish in a day. Next day, I took it to my bedroom, put my clock on top and didn't give it a second thought. About a week later I moved my clock and saw that the feet of this small clock radio had left some indentations on the finish just from the small weight of the clock. It certainly taught me to wait until a finish is cured, and not just dry, before putting it to use.
with that said, I'm itching to try this shotgun out.
