Why do you like Revolvers?

Kind of like the difference in an automatic and a manual transmission. You just feel more like a part of whats going on with a revolver. JMO

Why do you like Revolvers?

Different reasons.

But my Model 19 is right next to my bed.

My 19 is a sweet shooter with an excellent trigger, that I lucked into around the turn of the millenium. It ain't goin' anywhere.

My two snubs, on the other hand, are utilitarian guns. I have decent grip sets that adapt them to my hands. I have a load that shoots dead to point of aim. They're fun to shoot, and I trust them to work when I need them to and stay discreetly out of sight when I don't.

The older I get the more I loathe chasing brass......

That too.

My first handgun experience was learning how to shoot a SA revolver more than 50 years ago - have never grown tired of it. While I own some semis, they rarely get used. I like the feel of a well balanced Colt, Smith or Ruger in my hand and to sum it all up in a nutshell . . . I guess it's "cuz I'm old" and prefer steel and wood over tupperware. :D

GaryED50, you're looking at the wrong bottom feeders. In, say, 1914, they didn't have a lot of plastics, certainly not for firearms frames. Check out the automatics from that era. Today, I have a 9x19 wonder that weighs less than my 1903 Colt. Practical? Yes. Elegant? Not like that Colt, or Remington, or Savage, or Mauser, etc, etc.

Same reason my Mazda has a 5 speed. Makes me feel like I am driving something from days gone by. Of all my guns, my Single Six is my favorite. Simple and cool as all get out.

Ain't nothin can't beat a good ol' boy and his .38 wheelgun says I.

With the practice of a true marskman, some time at the bench, snaps and dummy shells, one can get QUICK QUICK QUICK with speedloader reloads.

My .38 has the power but my .357 also has the THUMP.

This country boy don't need 18-19-20 shots. Never have, never will. Six'l do if you can.

This, that'n others the reason I like wheelies.

I've only owned handguns for a couple of years, but I now own two revolvers and a Beretta M9. I like all three of those guns.

One of the things that I like about a revolver is that it fits within the KISS principle: Keep It Simple Stupid. Load the rounds. Snap the cylinder shut. Aim, fire, repeat until empty. It really doesn't get much simpler than that.

I have six semi-autos and two revolvers, a 3rd gen DS and a 2nd gen Cobra, both with the shrouded ejector rods. The Colt Snubbies are the penultimate in revolver design for me and the prettiest SA/DA revolvers ever made. The other wow factor for me is at 15 yards they are incredibly accurate which doesn't make sense considering their sight platform. I can even shoot 3" groups at 25 yards in single action and can carry them in a pocket of my cargo shorts.

It would have to be a 3-speed on the column for "days gone bye."

No truer words have been spoken!

Simplicity

When teaching newer shooters I find the less complicated design to really allow people to focus on things like muzzle control and trigger pull.

I also like the ability to shoot almost any shaped bullet.

For me, it's a lot of intangibles I suppose.

The look of a S&W k-frame appeals to me. With Magnas and a Tyler t-grip, they fit my hand almost perfectly. No slides, safeties, or magazines to fumble with.

That said, I fully recognize the advantages of a semiauto and I own several that I shoot regularly.

But there's just something about revolvers...

Wow man, really got you guys going with that question.

Believe it or not. I almost got one of my coworkers turned into a convert.
Ok maybe not a convert. But since I have known him ALL he ever shoots are Glocks. He is pretty good at it too. Has won a couple free ones at competitions.

I keep going on about my revolvers.

Finally he traded a rifle with a guy for a Ruger Red hawk in 44 mag.
Now I cant get him to shut up about it and he even wants to come shoot my Single Seven now. Evil I say Evil :D

It’s autoloaders, autoloaders. and more autoloaders for my son. When we shoot together more time than I would like is spent looking for that last one piece of brass. For me it’s revolvers, all the way. After I’m done shooting I open the cylinder and drop the brass into whatever I intend on carrying them home in. I like the way a revolver looks in a nice set of grips too. And I’ve had more issues with the autoloaders too. Don’t know if it’s me limp wristing or the pistols or what but a revolver has yet to let me down. Besides that, they just look cool. Mostly I shoot stainless but nothing looks better than a nice blued revolver decked out in a beautiful set of grips. New or old, don’t matter to me

As to capacity, I have read in several old articles the say most "Gunfights" are over with an average of 2 1/2 rounds having been fired.

There is little concern for load selection in the revolver. The revolver has been called "Omniverous". They will eat most anything.

If you need another shot, it is a lot easier and quicker to pull the trigger again than it is to operate the slide. Racking the slide on an auto is difficult for folks of slight stature and older folks with joint problems. Even tough to get into action quickly if needed for defense and the auto is stored without a round in the chamber.

With the revolver you don't have to remember if you took the safety off.
