Why do we love Snubs?

Boy Flusher that Agent sure looks good! I'd give ya $350 in a second but its not on Ca. "approved" list and unless your here is impossible to transact. :( I was a fool last year not to buy a P.P. in .22 wrf that would have matched my win 1890 .22wrf for $225, but it looked kinda "old" with that shorter cylinder and "first generation" look and I like shootin guns. :(

Snub nose revolvers are the only guns that you can shoot from the waist and always hit your target.
You don't even have to aim!
(I know this because I grew up watching old movies.)

I suppose it takes a lot of practice because I can't do it yet. :(

I was thinking about the ultimate utility of my new 940 (9mm J frame).

You load it and it is ready to go bang. Just point and shoot.

Combined with being very small and packing a wallop what is not to love??

I'll tag on to Nick's post......

I like the no-brainer simplicity of the snub and the fact that it is probably the best compromise between concealability and power. What else can you easily hide in your pocket with the potential stopping power of the mighty .357 mag?? There is also nothing quite as universally and instantly identifiable as the business end of a snub-nosed revolver! (watched any old Hollywood crime movies lately?)

I'm also one of those nut-cases who happens to enjoy the thrill of firing full-house .357 loads out of a snubby; Gotta love all that recoil, blast noise, and muzzle/gap flash.

This one's pretty sexy, don't you think?

Besides the potential for high powered loads in a small package, snubs have the versatility of firing a variety of loads (shot, wadcutter, etc.) reliably. This versatility makes it possible for a shooter to work their way up the performance ladder and carry more powerful loads as their proficiency increases.

The small revolvers also lend themselves to use by either hand, which could be handy in a back-up piece.

Funny thing... I don't like revolvers. In fact, I pretty much DIS-like revolvers. The bigger the revolver, the longer the barrel, the less I like the looks of them. I love my semi-autos, and have a'plenty of them.

But when it comes to small, light weight, put in your pocket and go... I had to give in and buy a 642, because nothing else worked as well. (Unless I wanted to settle on a .32) And for some reason, the more I look at snubbies, the more I find that they are fast becoming the exception to my personal opinion that revolvers are UGLY as SIN!

CCW....

...isn't just for 'snubbies' anymore :D

My two weapons are a Taurus Mod 85 Snub, and a Ruger Security Six in .357mag w/ 2 3/4" barrell....

I switched the the little revovlers because I just couldn't find an Auto that was compact, powerful and inexpensive. Eventually I'll buy another auto (sold my Ruger P95 this summer to buy the Taurus), but for now, I know I'm a little more safe and secure with my choice of two pistols for CCW or home defense...

Snubs are popular for two reasons: 1) gun store clerks push them, 2) gun rags feature them for "concealed carry" articles.
Hmmmmm....
I NEVER ask a gun store clerk for their opinion of what I should get, and I haven't subscribed to a gun rag in YEARS! I can genuinely say that I went with a snubbie only after I had thoroughly exhausted every semi-auto possibility I could get my hands on. :D

I wanted a gun that fit in my pocket comfortably and without printing nastily.

The PM9 was just barely available, but I saw one, put in my pocket, and thought, 'nope'.

I planned to get a P32, until a 'what-if' thread on TFL made me realize that if I ever had to take a gun out, and if it was a .32 ACP I pulled out, I was gonna hate myself.

I got an Airlite 340 .357, and two months later, my wife still wouldn't know I was carrying a gun in my front jeans pocket more or less all the time unless I had told her after about 3 weeks. My 11 year old still doesn't know I carry, and we frisk and frolic a fair amount.

That's why I love my snubby.

so that's why? Good thing I listen to my gun store clerk and read those mags or I would never own one.....

Hmm, a Snubbie you say!

Now theres a thought. I was thinking of a p32 for a back up to my Kahr P-9 and hadn't thought of a Snubbie. Ow, more thinking to do now.

Well, I can't speak for anybody else, but I've loved 'em ever since I saw Cannon shoot a guy off a hillside 100 yards away with one shot, using his .38 snub, and Dick Tracy shoot a goat off a mountain with one shot using his. Now that's compact, accurate firepower. What else would a person need?

What I like most about the snubbies, especially the super short barrelled aloy guns is th watch 3 or 4 of them firing at the same time at the range AFTER DARK. Man, is that ever a show to remember. The shorter the barrel and higher the cal. the beter.:D

Growing up watching all those cop tv shows, what else would you want to pistol-whip a perp with?:D Wouldn't do it any justice if you used a glock or any other polymer gun. (j/k, flamesuit is ON ;))

and there's something about calling it a "saturday night special" that has a certain non-PC ring to it...:)
