Why do people buy rifles without iron sights??

Iron sights are becoming a thing of the past on long guns. For long range work scopes are better for 0 to 150 yards or so Dot sights are better. I have back up Iron sights on my Car 15 but the main sight is a Eotech Holo sight. Optics simply allow people to shoot faster, father and better.

Its an easy sight to use I put it on my rifle at the reccomendation of someone who has had to use a rifle in combat. It allows me to shoot faster and more accurately. Thats what matters.

Lotsa deer are collected at dawn or dusk. With iron sights at those times, people are also occasionally collected...

Scopes allow far more precise shooting than do iron sights.

Good light, sneaky-snake hunting in brush or timber, iron sights are superior.

Once again--or, still--it's purpose and circumstance.

I will not go hunting (Bigger game) unless my rifle has both! 99% of the places I hunt I NEVER KNOW WHICH SIGHT I'LL NEED. This means I hunt in brush or thick woods.Took my 7mm to Pa.one year,no sights, just scope could not SEE look in scope deer would blend in with back ground, could see deer with naked eye,not with scope.(Leupold) Now looking for a 6.5x55 with sights. P.S. My son took the same rifle to Alabama shot 2 deer from tree stand.it's his now.

On a precision rifle I don't need them. On a combat or hunting rifle I definately want them.

If you really want a rifle with open sights, get a Remington 700 BDL. One of the few on the market that still come with them. I think that Winchester is also making a compact style rifle with iron sights that could fit your bill. I believe it is called the Ranger?

One reason to buy a rifle without iron sights: most of the factory iron sights are hard for me to use. My eyes seem to see better with a rear peep and a front post, like an M1 Garand, or an AR15 A2 style. I can shoot ok with the rear blade, but it seems to take longer to "acquire" the target.

If I buy a rifle with no sights, then I can choose the iron sights and have them put on.

Regards.

I'm not speaking about myself, but I know of a few fellers who are middle aged and older who's eyes aren't what they used to be, so iron sight won't do them any good. They need scopes so they can magnify their targets instead of seeing a fuzzy blob 100+ yards away.

Presently, I wouldn't buy a rifle without iron sights.
