Why Arizona is a GREAT State

Funny how the A-B states have highest violent crime and the d-f states have lower violent crime rates .... how does that happen?

It must be nice to not have to factor in such things as population density, economic status or neighborhoods, and other potentially causal things. But hey, there is still an inverse relationship between number of pirates and global warming.

Actually RATES are by pop and can be filtered for Income. It is a dead solid fact that LESS gun control for Law abiders=lower crime rates. This FACT is why the CCW was so quickly accepted by so many states(31+).

The problem is that it seems counter intuative. And people that fancy themselves as 'enlightened' or 'intellectual' carry with that tendency a 'self importance' that impedes them getting past many counter intuitive facts.

The most horrific and gastly gun crimes occur in 'gun free' areas. Schools, universities, towns and cities with very restictive gun laws.

Just Google 'crime rates and concealed carry ' for yourself. Or google 'Lott/Mustard report' where they studied EVERY county in the US and found violent crimes reduced across the board.
Not even the anti-gun sites deny it. They SPIN it but thet don't DENY it.

It is in fact not at all counter-intuitive to realize that when guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns, and in fact, it is more the "real" criminals and not people that are criminals because they have guns that makes violent crime rates go up. I.e. those likely to commit violent crimes are more likely to have a gun regardless of the law.

I just have a problem when that fact is trumped as some kind of solution to a problem.

I think all states should have shall issue. I am not under the impression that violent crime cease to exist. (and yes, I know that you are not proposing that it does.)

AZ has plenty of space for gun people, looking for a few more firearm manufacturers to set up shop.
Deep breath, here we go - no licensing, no registration, no "safety inspection", no waiting period, no ammo ban, no AWB, no magazine limit ban, no FOID, no permit needed to carry open, Shall-Issue 5 year CCW permit, 8 hour class, no class or fingerprints for renewal, no one-gun-a-month, public places required to provide safe storage if they don't want legal firearms inside, Anti-Katrina confiscation law in place, public ranges everywhere, (Ben Avery Range named a "Jewel of the State", by our Deomcratic gov!), whew, running out of breath!

Oh, yeah, no civil liabilty for justified shooting, either, by law. Castle Doctrine in place.
Did I miss anything? Oh, yeah, no requirement to go through an FFL for law abiding private transfer.
Hmm, keep thinking I forgot something...

Just know, that somewhere in the world, this very comment made an anti's head explode with rage.

I like your state. ALOT.

If memory serves, cant people who dont even live in the state of AZ apply for an AZ ccw? Or is that utah im thinking of?

I know Utah does that . There's a gun store here in Kingman that has a fella give the class for AZ and UT . If you look at the states that accept one or the other you can drive from coast to coast and easily carry concealed the entire way .

utah almost failed, Darn! D- thats it, I'm moving to Wyoming..
fireworks and booze for everyone. Not at the same time though;)

fixboot, yes, AZ permit is for res/nonres, same exact permit, NOT weapon specific, and since we are NFA friendly, you may legally carry any NFA firearm on the National Registry either openly, or concealed with your valid shall-issue permit. I knew a guy who carried a MAC in an SMZ with two 32 round mags offside. He also had the classic MAC breifcase. Carried it. LEGALLY.:D:cool::D
Did I mention we recognize other state permits, even Cali?
In Texas they have the 51% rule, which I would liketo see here, but I'll put up with fine dining at no-booze Dennys for open carry and other bennies.:p

I just got here to AZ

I just moved here to Phoenix from the Draconian state of CA this weekend, OMG, OPEN CARRY and people don't even take a second look. I plan to encourage everyone I come into contact with to do the same. A right not used will surely be taken away and I'm planning on using mine :D. I plan to open carry all the time and when I get my CCW in a few months I'll put a P3AT in an ankle holster. YYYYIIIIIPPPPEEEEEEEEEE FREEEEEEDOM

Have a great gun carryin' Kenpo day

Welcome to AZ Ken. Just a tip on open carry, so that ya spook fewer people, open carry with a cuff pouch. Puts folks at ease that aren't used to seeing a citizen w/ a gun. And 'break' em so they won't lock. Don't want em used against ya and you def. don't want to be tempted to use em on a BG for a variety of reasons.

Actually, I would counsel against that - don't get yourself misidentified, by either good or bad guys. If you want to open carry, the best advice is dress well, and carry a professional looking sidearm in professional looking leather. The sheeple who see will auto ID as an off duty cop, and the BGs will wonder.
Since CCW is quite fast and easy, (some turn around times with DPS have been a week or so.), I would concentrate on your CCW setup.
But, if you want to open carry, go for it - this IS Free AZ.

Hey armoredman, I've been kicked out of Denny's:barf: on more than one occasion while open carrying. Not fond of their food but at 2am what else is there, and it could be worse(:barf:Waffle House:barf:). For that reason I will only carry concealed from now on.

Texas beat AZ with a D-. Darn it, if the legislature had stuck to business instead of that stupid fight to unseat the speaker of the house during the end of the session, then they might have passed the legislation to allow CHL holders to keep a gun in their car in employers' parking lots without getting fired. Then, we would have had an F. Now, it will be two years before we get another chance to get a perfect score from Brady.

I don't dress well all the time when I open carry, I have work clothes and I strap on a gun after work and do my errands. I could care less if I scare people with a gun on my hip, they live here and know the law, and it's not my phobia. If they can't handle the guns, they need to move to CA where I just came from, in fact, there's an apartment for rent where I was.

I just took the CCW class last Sat. and mailed off the paperwork Mon., but I'm still going to open carry intentionally to scare people, and to get them accustomed to seeing how lawful citizens can carry guns and not shoot everyone. I moved here because of the gun laws, I was tired of the oppression in the PRK that's an ongoing battle. I am ecstatic that Open Carry is the law here and I fully intend to exercise my 2nd amendment rights loud and proud, lest they be taken from me.

Oh yea, looking forward to getting an F from the Brady bunch as well LOL.

Good for you! Im not brave enough to carry open even though it is allowed here in OR. I see why you want to and im behind you 10000% but I ask you to please remember that whenever that gun is in plain sight, you are a spokesman and role model for all of us that value our 2nd rights. DONT SCREW IT UP!:D

Dude, I'm 44, and have been handling guns and ammo long before you were born or even thought of. Bad impression, of what exactly? Is there an impression that I should give? How bout just keeping the gun in it's holster until it's necessary to use it? That's the only impression I need to give anyone.

Having lived in Tucson more than half my life and now here in the B+ State of NY, I can hardly wait to get back home where guns are almost a way of life and you can carry open and hardly get a glance other than from the Californians and New Yorkers..

Hey hey hey, I didn't mean it like I think you think I did, I was kind of going along with armoredman's post........you know, trying to look professional. I think its a good idea not only to avoid trouble but also to save yourself some hassle from people asking 21 questions.;)

Trust me, no harm intended.
