Every time I go to my favorite ranges in my area it seems there are one or more young men with thier girl friends showing how big and strong and manly they are to thier girl friends by shooting S&W X frames, Taurus Raging Bulls, and Ruger Super Redhawk in monster calibers like 500 mag, 454's and such. And then almost forcing these ladies to shoot these monsters.
The other day I was shooting my Winchester Trapper 44 Mag, Ruger Dearfield, and my Taurus 44 Trapper with some pretty heafty loads. The couple next to me was shooting what appeard to me was a Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Cassuels. Whatched him insist that she should shoot the Ruger. I started to shoot my little pop guns, minding my own business. After a few minutes I feel a tap on my shoulder and it was the girl from the next lanes. She says that she would like to shoot my Dearfield carbine. So I put a fresh mag in the carbine and coached her though shooting it. She liked it and did fairly well for the first time. She saw my Tracker and said that "it was a lot smaller than her boy friend's. What kind of bullets it shoots" and quickly ask to try it too. She kept the rounds on the paper at least. She went back to her BF in the next lane said something to him and left him standing with a confused and angry look on his face. He asked what I was shooting, told him 44 Mags. Few minutes later she comes back with a range gun she has rented and she showed me, I told her good choice (a Taurus 357 4 inch and some 38 spl+P ammo) she went to her new lane by herself and started by asking me show her how to shoot it after showing her she went on to shoot it with a satified look on her face. The BF still confused cought me as I left and asked me what I did? Told him and left him standing confused. What I told him was I showed her that you do not have to shoot the big-boy hunting guns and to find a 22or a 38 and that she would enjoy shooting more.
I guess Testerone is a powerful, dangerous, and confussing drug for young men.
